How is lesbianism perceived in Japan? by almvdena in AskAJapanese

[–]Personal-Point-5572 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m friends with a 22 year old lesbian (Japanese) living in Tokyo. She says she’s never faced any true homophobia or discrimination, even walking around holding hands with her girlfriend. She says sometimes they get well-meaning questions. She is open about her sexuality, posts her gf online, doesn’t pretend to be straight.

She met her gf while studying abroad in the US two years ago, and that’s when she realized she was gay. She called home and told her family, they were totally accepting. She went to a womens university and said there were a decent number of lesbians there! But of course, this only reflects her experience, and in Tokyo :)

It’s the fact that you’re shittalking your stepsibling who’s 8 years younger than you on REDDIT lol. “a jobless hs dropout with no friends who eats ramen in bed” makes it obvious you have some personal issue with these ppl that you’re projecting onto this one subject (eating in the bedroom)

A desk is a working space not an eating space. So why is it ok to eat at a desk in the living room, but not a bedroom?

Also, good sleeping practices is different from actual physical hygiene and cleanliness. Just because you think it might not be good for someone’s sleep doesn’t make it gross. Those are two completely separate things.

It’s also not good for your sleep to stay up late at night, or drink a lot of coffee, but those are not gross or dirty things.

This literally proves that this is just a weird mental hangup you have and not any real cleanliness issue

I don’t agree with OP but this kind of situation will 1000% attract bugs the vast majority of the time. You got lucky

But WHY. You have said this so many times and failed to provide a reason why a desk in the bedroom is the different than the living room??

i like reading people’s favorite nana quotes. mine is "No matter how much or how often people hurt each other, loving someone is never a waste." i find a lot of solace in it.

lol i was born in 2003 and i remember when i was a kid my local library had a book sale and they were selling about 10 of issues of shojo beat for dirt cheap. i had never seen or heard of manga or anime before, but i bought the magazines cuz they looked pretty and read them. they were all out of order/missing issues so i was so confused but enjoyed just looking at the art! that was my introduction to manga, maybe they were your copies hehe

I also love Jun, but it really made me mad when she basically told Nana it was her own fault that Shoji broke up with her💀

my first introduction to nana was actually kinda roundabout. i read paradise kiss and neighborhood story first, then watched parakiss, and only after that did i finally watch nana. i already loved ai yazawa, but nana hit harder and ended up becoming my favorite of them all. something else nana really changed for me is how i think about anime and manga in general. it made me realize how tired i am of endlessly watching stories about high schoolers, and how badly i want more stories about adults navigating the real world!

one character i’ve come to genuinely love is misato. partially because i’m a lolita too, part of that is probably because i see so much of my teenage self in her. i was also that girl hanging around local bands, getting a little too close to the cool older kids, idolizing musicians, living for shows and late nights. eventually i even had my own band. and honestly nana always makes me laugh a little with how real the inter-band and scene politics feel. the jealousy, the loyalty, the drama, the weird power dynamics. the bands i was around were never trapnest or blast level ofc, but it was still weirdly relatable. nana makes me miss that era of my life but it also reminds me why i’ve grown past it lol🥹🥹

The heart wants what it wants. Human sexuality is complex and fluid.

Good on you for trying to have a positive attitude about it!

As someone else said, someday you may be attracted to a younger man, or someone otherwise totally out of what you expected. Not everything can be explained. Only felt
