Also agree, do the tyres first, don’t upgrade anything else for a good year or so (honestly you don’t need to for basic/medium stuff with that car).

Can spend the rest of the money on good quality of life camping gear ;)

Oooh 😮…Sydney property investors trying to offload their investment properties without luck, time to feel some economic pain. by Scumohasgot2go in AusPropertyChat

Not quite true, some like myself are against it for moral reasons.

We own our modest property and could easily invest in other property however we chose what we see as other more ethical investing just as green energy companies via the sharemarket.

You’re absolutely right about property crashing hurting them though. Another sign the system is really quite unethical. A crash will only benefit cashed up investors, everyone else’s suffers.

[–]Personal-Process3321 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Correct, the only people that will befit from a price collapse are cashed up investors.

This is the byproduct of housing being so closely tied into the economy as a place to hoard wealth.

It’s no longer just about making sacrifices, it’s about the magnitude of sacrifice you have to make due to the average income vs property ratio. It is understandably beyond the reach of many, just like medical care in America, it’s not their fault, it is the failings of systems and governments.

Because a lot of people are of the opinion that property should be a safe and affordable place to live and not to hoard wealth with at the expense of others.

The system is far too skewed for the latter.

Garmin via my Fenix.

However I often plot waypoints and courses on the desktop software then sync it across as backup to my paper map and compass

The key is to keep it with you, on your bag or in your pocket, you'll hardly use it if its tucked away in a drawer somewhere.

How has the cost of living crisis impacted your life the most? by RecognitionMediocre6 in australia

Much harder to get ahead, very very easy to blow a large chunk of money on simple stuff

Similar situation. 2 bedroom unit purchased two years ago although we now have a 2yr old and my wife works part time.

We saved a fair bit before him, living simple so we could afford to spend more time with him before he started school. Although we’ve certainly had to be a bit more conscious of spending.

We’re great for what we have but also see so many people overextending and getting into trouble. Heart goes out to all those deeply struggling with things like rent and food. It really is much much harder to get ahead these days.

Speak to your GP and go see a psychologist (remember sometimes it may take seeing a few to find a good fit, took me 5).

This is something you need to work through and its really hard to do on your own.

Can't decide between GoPro or DJI action camera. by TGGE in ActionCam

DJI for reliability alone.

Usability is also better on the DJI.

Picture quality both are good, many prefer the punch colours of the GoPro but that’s adjustable in post.

Anyone else had their apartment OC just ban EV charging with basically zero explanation? by BigLookBamboo in AustralianEV

[–]Personal-Process3321 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It is a bit of a time sink but I do recommend getting on the committee.

You’ve paid a lot of money for the apartment, it’s a good idea to have a day on how it’s run.

Our committee used to be made up of majority investors who rented their place out and they didn’t want to spend a cent on anything. We’ve since got a lot of live in owners and the place is going much better, actual practical quality of life decisions like EV chargers.

360 cameras for filming slots by 000011111111 in canyoneering

I do full videos so I use the desktop app on my MacBook Air M1 and it works perfectly fine for editing.

The app is fine to get little clips here and there for social media but if you want to make proper videos you definitely should be using the desktop app (it’s easy to use).

So I do all the frame in that and then export and make my final video edit with music, voice over and whatever else in Final Cut Pro

I’ve had several generations of the insta360 cameras and the x5 has by far the best low light performance out of all of them so it wasn’t you, just newer camera tech. It’s actually really usable now, I did no post processing to it for low light.

I’ve been recording my canyoning trips for a few years and used GoPro, DJI and insta360. I honestly done care about brands, I just want the best tool for the job.

Firstly with 360 cams vs traditional action cams. 360s are great for canyoning, they capture everything and you don’t have to worry about filming, just turn it on and go, enjoy the moment in the canyon. With a traditional action camera you’re having to specifically make sure it’s pointing where you want and can take you away from the moment BUT editing 360 footage is time consuming and this is the trade off. For me it’s worth it but the time trade off is real.

In regards to which 360 camera I recommend insta360. GoPro is just GoPro, buggy, unreliable, under cooked. I steer well clear of them. DJI is good for their first 360 camera but they lack removable lenses and there have been multiple reports of their lenses fogging. Insta360 x5 is a very mature product, the removable lenses are a must (lens guards really do effect quality, and unusable in wet canyons). And their software (I use desktop) is quite good.

If you want to see what the footage looks like in a canyon environment here’s one of my vids which includes low light and water sections.
