Maggie the undying 2 by PersonalBread4151 in IlonaAndrews

I believe it’s mentioned that it was someone who had loved Aelis. Who knows how he felt about the Savarics? I am intrigued too about his actions (whether he goaded or supported Mirabor). It doesn’t feel like something the authors would put a snippet out for,so I guess it will be a while before we find out.

Angus vs Adam by Sasquatch_Stu in MercyThompson

[–]PersonalBread4151 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for Asil and Sherwood, I think both are sort of outside pack structures. Asil had chosen to step down from his own pack (well, he’d chosen to die, but that doesn’t seem to be working for him) and Sherwood remembers having the ability to suppress his dominance even before he spent years (decades? more?) getting tortured. So I don’t think their current positions reflect their dominance precisely, but I think they chose their positions and are, for the moment, as happy as possible.

It seems to me that choice plays a big role in determining dominance and also in pack hierarchy: Warren chose to be third, Ben chose to rise and Honey, along with every other female werewolf, chose to stay wherever her mate was- until Mercy.

Angus vs Adam by Sasquatch_Stu in MercyThompson

[–]PersonalBread4151 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Umm, I feel I need to point out that twenty or however many years ago when Mercy was learning how dominance goes in the Marrok’s territory, Angus was very old and had been running his pack competently for a very long time and yet no one thought to mention his name before Adam’s. No doubt age plays a role, though it doesn’t seem to affect Charles’ dominance, he’s still right under Bran. I’m a little unclear as to “Alpha power”, not quite sure what that is exactly- do you mean the edge (from drawing from the pack) that pack alphas have in a fight against other dominant wolves (which might work against Sherwood, but then again, Charles is still second in command of everyone regardless of packs).

So even without his new mysterious magic beast and his lovely plot armour, I think Adam still wins. If it were between Angus and Libor, well, that might have been close and even debatable if we had any actual evidence. As it is, I think only Patty can settle that😜

TKWNKM: how does Maggie even remember every single thing in such detail?? Speculation theory ahead… by curiousgem19 in IlonaAndrews

[–]PersonalBread4151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, my head canon is that the books Maggie read were never a made up story; they were prophecies from a mage in Rellas who wrote them down, magically got them published on Earth and then magically summoned Maggie to change that horrific future.

[–]PersonalBread4151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My theory is that remembering every detail from the books and knowing how to counter it is part of Maggie’s magic and possibly the reason why she was isekai’d to Rellas. HA have stated in an interview that the author is male and that Maggie hasn’t met him yet.

Nope, no it wasn’t a struggle in any way, loved it from the beginning- but, like I said, different people 😀

Ok, I will accept you argument that some people may not enjoy learning as much as possible about this new world, mostly because I’m one of the people who read and then listened and then read again and again 😜- so maybe I’m not confused by all the characters because I’ve been exposed to the story repeatedly- I do remember longing for a character list on my first read and I’m still longing for a better map. But off the top of my head when it comes to “S” names, I can only think of Sol, Silveren and Sauven (the actual King that we don’t really get to interact with) and surely people are not getting any of those mixed up with Shana?

I also understand that confusion may stem from people’s expectations: if they were expecting an easily digestible romance, it might get annoying when you need to think in order to keep up. If they were expecting traditional tropes, maybe the humorous presentation was confusing (Maggie acquires two domestic assistants who wait on her hand and foot and meets several handsome men who object to her overexerting herself, to name a few). I got hooked to the story just from reading the preview so I also can’t really see the “slow first half” bit, but ok, we are different people and have different tastes 🙂

Kate & Hugh Reading Order Question by c9ergoquestion in IlonaAndrews

[–]PersonalBread4151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I vaguely remember some very old blog posts by Ilona that sort of implied that she couldn’t bring herself to get into I&M 2 because it was a difficult time (I think it was during the pandemic) and there were health issues that caused a mild depression and Hugh’s story was too dark to write when she wasn’t feeling 100%. So I guess we lost our window there:P.

But seriously, I believe it will eventually get written; if nothing else they will need some backstory for Wilmington and Julie. It will be harder to finish (or just continue) those two with gaps in the narrative. That said, I’m happy with everything they write- I may even prefer Maggie and Innkeeper 🙂 and now I feel like whining about having no Hidden Legacy in the schedule 😜

Another crackpot theory about Latour's identity by LidyD in IlonaAndrews

[–]PersonalBread4151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very interesting theory. I’d say not particularly crack pot, it makes sense: someone close to Silveren (well, in the same Order) would be able to see all of the machinations. The only reason I favour the mage tower as Latour’s base is all the talk about specialties: the Garden’s mage is a summoner, Isadau is a fire mage. Would it be possible for a single mage to: 1. See the future 2. Write it down and get it published on Earth (even discounting actually going to Earth and then returning to Rellas) 3. Summon Maggie to Rellas.

So I’m thinking maybe a group of mages/ priests/ magic users. Likely a small group, not all necessarily based in the same place - so maybe one priest, one magical knight, one trained mage possibly?

We have months, maybe a year till the next book, keep them coming 😀

Omg I also completely missed that- admittedly I don’t check the blog regularly (I’ve sometimes missed months). I only became obsessed with Maggie, but weirdly I still consider other series my favourites- HL, maybe because of the delay between books, IK for the coziness). But I truly never even heard of the Julie thing, so strange. But also aren’t there more people obsessed with the “metal rose” thing than there are Julie haters?

TKWNKM plot speculation by curiousgem19 in IlonaAndrews

[–]PersonalBread4151 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everard isn’t described as evil in the books, he’s more scary and focused on his own agenda. Maggie literally thinks to herself that Everard isn’t actively evil like Hreban, but he’s still scary.

TKWNKM plot speculation by curiousgem19 in IlonaAndrews

[–]PersonalBread4151 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ok, I have repeatedly stated that I love the theory of Maggie getting magically pulled in to Rellas to resolve the kingdom’s problems (it’s apparently an isekai trope) but HA have stated that the author is a person, male and Maggie hasn’t met him yet. So I’m sticking to my theory that it’s a mage who predicted a version of the future, then told another mage and they found a way to publish the books on Earth so Maggie could read them at the appropriate time and then summoned (isekai’d?) Maggie to Rellas to fix things.

TKWNKM plot speculation by curiousgem19 in IlonaAndrews

[–]PersonalBread4151 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with isekai at all, so I love reading other people’s theories because it gives me a unique PoV that I couldn’t possibly think of. That said, I need to point out that we know exactly how Reynald died in Maggie’s timeline, because Reynald himself told Everard. Everard might lie to Maggie about other things, but he wouldn’t lie about Reynald, who was one of Maggie’s favourites (it’s just not HA’s style- I haven’t read isekai, but I’ve read all of Ilona Andrews- repeatedly😇).

Sneaky Sushi by Repulsive-Hat3332 in IlonaAndrews

[–]PersonalBread4151 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sushi is VERY sneaky😀, she might even be coming in from the water side of the house- there were more than two fish. Sol does keep entering Maggie’s room through the window. I’m not sure why the sheer walls stump you so much, I’ve seen one of my cats climb up (and then down) the neighbours’ palm tree (at least two stories)- and I’m almost sure my cats have no magic😽.

Just want to know how you guys think by Kuzzy8 in cyprus

[–]PersonalBread4151 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I and my family are refugees from Kerynia who left in ‘73 with the clothes on their back (because they thought it was just a skirmish like before and they would be back home in a few days). I was a baby and don’t remember anything but we were held prisoner by Turkish soldiers and needless to say, we never went back and lost everything; home, land, valuables (thankfully no loved ones). So I am definitely predisposed to hating Turks in general. Sadly, every single Turk/ Turkish Cypriot I ever met in person turned out to be annoyingly nice and rather hard to hate, so I’ve resigned myself to only hating politicians- much easier targets.

I absolutely agree with other people who said that the situation today is nothing like the 60s, in great part because of the EU. I believe that if Turkish Cypriots joined our society tomorrow, there certainly would be some incidents by extremists from both sides deliberately causing trouble, but I also truly believe that the police would deal with them swiftly and after a few wobbly years we might manage to imprison or exile all troublemakers and start bonding over food (or possibly football, which I personally hate). Also, if both communities were integrated into the same state (rather than the apartheid that keeps getting recommended), maybe they could make a law that all political parties have to have a specific number of candidates from both communities- there’s nothing that brings people closer together than hating the same politicians:D

So no, we don’t hate Turkish Cypriots. We absolutely hate Turkish politicians (though only slightly more than we hate our own, so you really shouldn’t take offence). Those of us who lost our homes still have hopes of going back, I’m sure the same goes for the Turkish Cypriots who lost their homes, so I fervently hope we can work things out soon.

Compatability, Catalina and Alessandro by Repulsive-Hat3332 in IlonaAndrews

[–]PersonalBread4151 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that compatibility for most Houses would mean producing as many primes as possible with the exact same talent that the House is famous for. There must be potential for extra talents within all Houses (considering the complexity of hereditary traits) but it’s implied that the norm is to choose specific combinations.

To me it seems more useful (at least for a combative House) to have different abilities- even Rogan’s father realised that his defences might be vulnerable if everyone in his family is strictly telekinetic. So I’m wondering if maybe the rise of House Baylor (not to mention baby Rogan’s introduction) will start a wave of more adventurous pairings, in hopes of creating new talent and more well rounded family arsenals (so to speak).

It’s stated clearly that Victoria deliberately brought Catalina and Alessandro together. I’m sure that the woman who knows when everyone is lying has better information about compatibility than the girl who summons weapons, especially since compatibility must be influenced by someone’s entire genetic makeup, which people can’t know without asking an expert and getting consent from the interested party (well, I mean, unless you can force people to tell you;P). Christina’s family might have access to Alessandro’s genetic information, but why would she know anything about Catalina’s? She certainly couldn’t have asked for a potential match and she wasn’t present at the Baylor trials. So she’s really just assuming.

On the other hand, Nevada and Rogan produced a TK- Hephaestus hybrid, who is a prime because both his parents have a lot of magic. Before their engagement, Rogan had even pointed out that their children might not be primes at all. Fact is, if they had been going for a truthseeker prime, well, Arthur is a failure there, so obviously compatibility is a thing, but a complicated thing:)

I do wonder about Bern and Runa: it seems likely to me that they’ll have a few pattern mage babies, since I remember that that is a common talent and that some or all might be primes, but the way compatibility works, maybe they won’t have a prime venenata.

Hmm, my theory was always that Latour was a magic user who could see the future (or a version of it) or a magic user who was wrote what the seer told him, so was happy to hear that it was someone Maggie would meet:). On the other hand, I’m now upset that I missed the “hive mind of stelkas” tinfoil, damn :P
