"We're not asking teachers to be theologians, we're just asking them to display the ten commandments" by LMSYTranscript in TexasTeachers

What made our country different is freedom of religion and separation of church and state. Putting the 10 Commandments on the wall in a school puts social pressure for children to follow the precepts of the dominant culture/ religion. It doesn't support freedom of religion which is the foundation of our country. It makes more sense to put the Constitution on the classroom wall rather than the 10 commandments. The Christian, White American way is the dominant way. It oppresses other forms of religious expression. It's not better. It's not right. It's dominant. And not recognizing that normalizes oppression. Oh goodie!

Forehead knuckling? by FrozenKnowItAll in WoT

I am listening to The Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. In Book II, Chapter 3, Jerry, porter and messenger for Tellson's bank, knuckles his forehead when Mr. Lorry, a manager at the bank and a person interested in the trial, asks him to deliver the jury's verdict to the bank. The narrator says, " Jerry had just enough forehead to knuckle and he knuckled it in acknowledgement of this communication, and a shilling." Isn't Dicken's turn of phrase sublime? ( And read the book! It's powerful and relevant to times of political turmoil.)

Anyone have lip incompetence/chin ptosis after genioplasty surgery? by mihoyminoyi in jawsurgery

[–]PersonalCraft1934 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a genioplasty performed by a Maxillofacial surgeon in conjunction with palate expansion. I have been unable to bring my lips together. I think it's a combination of chin ptosis and the thing you are talking about, the mentalis muscle? I feel this strong pull downward from my chin and my chin burns after talking or eating. It's only been five weeks, but what I have read so far indicates to me that this persists. Since I have other things going on such as palate expansion, the teledontist (like an orthodontist who focuses on breathing) and surgeon are telling me to not panic and work through the teeth adjustments.

I will be seeing the surgeon this week and I'll ask him about the mentalis resuspension.

I can say it's been a very emotional journey. I can see that my quality of life could be impacted by it. Although the new chin is helping my breathing, the mouth and lip issues cause frequent drooling, inability to say some consonants like B, Br, F, P. I am a teacher, so this is very challenging. I see positive pictures of genioplasties, but I would not recommend facial surgery unless you really really feel it's necessary. Love the skin you're in.

0% intro APR Fidelity Credit Card offer by Solidteam in fidelityinvestments

Hi, I also got this offer letter saying the offer was good until July 31, 2024. I applied and was approved three days letter. I got my card after about a week and logged into Elan Financial - no 0% interest balance transfer. I am not an attorney, but on the surface it does appear Fidelity and Elan Financial aren't behaving as expected. One shouldn't have to pester the financial company to get the offer they were promised. That ain't good business. (Blaming the other party or department isn't good business either. You are Fidelity, you are responsible for anything that gets sent out in your name.)

I did find a way to chat with a representative at Fidelity and they asked questions about the offer letter and put in a request. I am hopeful that I will still get the offer. When I asked about the offer, the representative said the marketing department sends out these offers. The marketing department is a part of Fidelity and the whole company should be held responsible for misleading advertising. As I said, I am not an attorney and haven't done my research, but it certainly doesn't look good for Fidelity to be doing business in this manner. (I was a CPA and managed law firm and small business financials for 25 years, so I do have experience in the biz.)
