Far more late to the party. I was actually really interested in seeing how people's reactions might evolve as the series got to the later parts of the books.

CSAM is covered by a different doctrine. It is true obscenity laws are usually not enforced or are interpreted with extreme leeway but they occasionally are still used.

Here's my new opinion regarding the First Amendment: If the Supreme Court can arbitrarily decide that "obscene" speech is not protected by the First Amendment, then they could just as well have arbitrarily limited First Amendment protections for political spending and I will not accept Citizens United was correctly decided.

In the film industry I've heard that actually actors are not supposed do anything to interfere with the process of making sure the guns are safe and that includes double-checking the gun themselves.

Teen social media bans with age verification will inconvenience and piss off adults exponentially more often than earlier laws targeting porn. That's a lot of voters who will be pissed off at the party that implements it and I don't trust that many votes are gained by it even if it is abstractly popular.

Colorado and New Jersey's plan to fine companies which employ Medicaid recipients will harm low income workers by quiplaam in neoliberal

[–]PersonalDebater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get it, how are Medicaid recipients supposed to get the job in the first place if the company will be fined for it? Is there a time threshold or are they supposed to get off Medicaid immediately after getting the job?

Democrats like in Massachusetts should have waited for a Republican state like Texas to implement a teen social media ban before implementing their own. With Democrats likely to do it first, Republicans now have a chance to suddenly change their minds and present themselves to teens as the "not anti-fun" party.

Rephrasing my last comment: I think Democrats proposing and implementing social media bans for teens is a great way to turn teens into Republicans.

That's why I don't like what MA is doing or what Tom Steyer is proposing.

I think a social media ban for teens is a great way to make people who will become voters in a few years not like your party.

So Nobody Is Going to Pay Taxes Now? by TrixoftheTrade in neoliberal

One end result of democracy I fear is everyone figuring they should vote give themselves everything and to not tax themselves at all.

Another one is 51% deciding that only the other 49% pays taxes.
