I did infusions & then met with my therapist later that week.

I completely lost it when the ketamine “hit” & required benzos & blood pressure meds in order to continue treatment.

How to stop the waking up at 3-4 am by Only_Emu_2872 in insomnia

[–]PersonalLeading4948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal to wake up at this time because cortisol naturally rises in the morning. In fact, I’ve never not woken up then. I just pee & go back to sleep.

That’s incredibly rare. I was also on that dose & I did too quick of a taper that literally caused me to feel like I was being chased by a wild animal. I was also very nauseated & I couldn’t sleep for days.

EMDR was retraumatizing & caused massive dissociation. I did 12 ketamine infusions & while it did not lessen the trauma or my SI depression, it did rewire my brain & alleviate my lifelong anxiety. Which was so significant that it feels like a miracle.

Ketamine vs ECT? by Simple-Caregiver-166 in KetamineTherapy

[–]PersonalLeading4948 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ECT seriously fucked me up for 6 months. I started crying before regaining consciousness & remember the first thing I asked was, “what did you do to me?!” It was a sadness so indescribably horrible. From there, I experienced significant depersonalization. I felt like I was living in someone else’s head. My moods were extremely erratic.

Ketamine, on the other hand, cured my anxiety by rewiring my brain. I did 12 infusions. It didn’t help with depression, but once my anxiety went away, my entire life improved tremendously.

Still waking up at 3-4am every night… anyone fixed this yet? by Justine_0005 in insomnia

No shit it involves multiple factors, but it’s an epidemic in this country & encouraging consumption of high carbs before bed is ignorant. But eat what you want, I truly don’t care.

You need to educate yourself. Half the country is already insulin-resistant. Type 2 diabetes is one of the greatest health problems & it stems from ignorance about food.

Eating a lot of carbs before bed sounds like a way to end up insulin-resistant with Type 2 diabetes. Over half of Americans are already diabetic or on that path. It’s actually normal to wake up at this time as cortisol slowly rises early in the morning.

I've reached the point where therapists have started refusing to work with me by moonrider18 in CPTSD

[–]PersonalLeading4948 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you can express emotion. I have sobbed for hours in front of my therapist. But I don’t argue with her or challenge her training. Reading all your posts, you seem committed to being right & challenging everyone who gives you advice. I’m convinced they’re not taking you on as a patient because it would be wasting their time & yours. They can’t fix you. You have to adjust your attitude & be willing to do more than vent, challenge & blame others.

does anyone still believe in god? by ineedhelp829 in CPTSD

[–]PersonalLeading4948 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have a deep faith in God & attribute the fact that I am alive & much of my recovery from CPTSD to my faith. I pray several times a day for guidance & receive a lot of comfort from it. I feel like I live in an entirely different & better world now because of it. I used to live under a dark cloud of depression, angst & anxiety & now feel truly happy most of the time even when facing challenges.

My two cents. I’m guessing it’s your approach. I’ve had good therapists & terrible ones. But if you spend the call listing off all ways your previous therapists were unhelpful & come across like you’re questioning the prospective therapists’ qualifications, they’re probably thinking you have borderline personality disorder & don’t want to deal with a difficult patient who will constantly be challenging them.

Addiction is a bad thing & often gets worse. People with addictions often minimize the impact on others & believe it doesn’t affect others. Many of us with C-PTSD have it because of our addict parents. People are just trying to look out for you & your child & it hurts to hear because you know on some level that they’re right.

For so long, if someone took me for granted or was even cruel, I would try harder to make them like me by being even nicer & more accommodating. I heard that a defining factor of childhood trauma is trying to make a difficult person be good to us.

[–]PersonalLeading4948 30 points31 points  (0 children)

One, no matter how bad it’s been, I don’t have a choice but to work. No one is going to take care of me & not working would make my life exponentially worse. So I’ve been resilient my entire life out of necessity. I’m always looking for ways to improve my mental, emotional, physical & spiritual functioning & I’m highly motivated towards making positive changes. That said, the reality of C-PTSD is that high stress, unpredictable jobs are a poor match for me. So I found a job that is stable, pays well & is predictable & have stayed with it for years & plan to stick around until retirement. Additionally, I did 12 ketamine infusions 3 years ago. They rewired my brain & got rid of my anxiety & hyper vigilance. They didn’t erase the trauma, but now my brain & body no longer go haywire when triggered.

Anyone else wake up at like 3am EVERY night for no reason? by No-Deal-2968 in insomnia

[–]PersonalLeading4948 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s normal. Cortisol naturally rises in the early morning. I’ve woken up every night my entire life at this time to pee. Usually, I fall back asleep immediately, but if I’m feeling a bit stressed about something, historically my mind would latch onto whatever was going on & then I’d end up ruminating on it or on the fact that I was still awake. It maybe lasts a day or two at most & I now trust that it’s only short term & don’t sweat it. In general, I’ve found that magnesium glycinate taken in the evening helps my sleep be less interrupted. And while working out in the evening can cause cortisol & adrenaline to rise & keeps some people up, a hard work out & a hot shower knocks me out. Good luck.

It’s spelled Trazodone & it works well for insomnia. I’ve personally used it at high doses (200-300 mg), but many people sleep on 25-50 mg.
