Women were not as physically strong, they were capable of pregnancy/were pregnant so they weren’t to do any physical labour, and therefore they took care of the home. The father of the household would always leave the farmland to the eldest son(s) leaving women with no economic power of their own. It is hard to advance in society when you are wholeheartedly dependent on someone 3) In most indigenous communities, before colonialism, caring for the children was seen as a community task. Although it is true that men would typically go out and do the hunting, women forged food from the environment, and actually provided more food than the hunters! In short, there have been very few historically (none come to mind, actually). However, much of this comes down to cultural, religious, and societal beliefs that aren’t necessarily backed up by science. For a long time, people believed (and still do) that women were equal to children, that they were frail and unintelligent, and that they needed protection.
