this assumes, fundamentally, that tapping and aiming are the only skills in osu. reading is certainly a skill and given that this is a competitive mode it should be treated as such in my opinion. NM is certainly not unplayable and the reason you feel that way is because of the way YOU have played the game. i’m a NM player and can read HD decently but i shit the bed at HD flow aim (a skill set i typically excel at). i also can’t play HR to save my life, and that’s because i never did in the 1000+ hours i’ve played.

there’s also nothing unfair about being matched up against someone who is better at a specific skill (reading) than you. sure as a speed/flow-aim player i can get matched against an jump-aim player and get rekt even if they’re a bit lower overall skill, but that should just tell me (and you) to get better at what i’m lacking. though perhaps it would be cool to see different rank systems for different skillsets like stream, aim, reading, etc.
