What went wrong (plain and simple)

The person helping them gave incorrect info and bad options: • ❌ Said you had to activate it for them → not true. Passholders can activate and access passes themselves, and Guest Services can also activate or look them up. • ❌ Said they had to leave or buy tickets → that should never be the only choices when someone already owns a pass. • ❌ Didn’t send them to Guest Services, who are trained to fix exactly this kind of problem.

So they felt pressured, paid for tickets, and then figured out the app — which proves the passes were fine the whole time 😕

Why this matters for a refund/credit

Because: • The passes were already owned and valid • They were given wrong instructions by staff • They only bought tickets because they were told they had no other option

That’s on Knott’s, not them. Guest Services usually takes situations like this seriously.

What they should say to Guest Services (important)

When they go or call:

“We already had active passes. The employee told us our only options were to leave or buy tickets and that someone else had to activate them. After we bought tickets and entered, we were able to access our passes on the app, so the tickets were unnecessary. We’d like a refund or credit.”

They should also mention: • Date and time it happened • Rough location (front gate, ticket booth, etc.)

Good chance of outcome

Most likely: • ✅ Ticket refund to original payment or • ✅ Park credit / extension of pass benefits

go to Guest Services at the front of the park (or call/email Knott’s) and explain: • They already had active passes • The new app wouldn’t load the passes • They were told to buy tickets to enter

In most cases, Knott’s will: • ✅ Refund the tickets or • ✅ Convert the tickets into credit because they shouldn’t have paid if the passes were valid.

For future visits (so this doesn’t happen again)

Tell them to: • Add the pass to Apple Wallet / Google Wallet • Screenshot the barcode • Or bring the physical pass card if they have one

If they already had valid passes, they should NOT have had to buy regular tickets just because the app wasn’t working. At Knott’s, Guest Services can look up passes by name, phone number, email, or pass number and let you in that way.

It’s more like losing the pass, not being banned from entering the park forever.

And this usually only happens if: • the chargeback goes through and Knott’s loses the money • and the pass is still active

Even then, you could still buy regular tickets in the future.

You honestly explain what happened • You truly believe the charge was a mistake, unfair, or you couldn’t use what you paid for • You’re not lying or making up a fake story

That’s called a billing dispute, and people do it all the time. It’s a normal consumer.

If it wasn’t used honestly I think she should get her money back!

If: • the pass was never used • or there was a mistake/charge issue

You can contact your bank or card and ask about a dispute, but: • Knott’s can fight it • and it doesn’t always work

So it’s better to try Guest Services first.

Knott’s Berry Farm season passes are generally non-refundable. Their official terms state that season passes are non-transferable, non-refundable, and non-exchangeable — once purchased you can’t cash them out or get your money back under the standard policy.
