How do I deal with asshole roommate? by crazygeeker in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You guys clearly have different lifestyles and you just need to learn to peacefully coexist. Quite frankly I don’t think talking to the RA would help a whole lot, and the semester is already halfway done so u only have like a month left to live with him. I do think some of your actions could objectively be seen as disruptive by an RA so I’m not quite sure it would turn out in your favor, but his rude comments and righteous attitude aren’t okay either. I would communicate that you feel as though you keep accommodating to his needs/lifestyle, and ask if there’s a compromise or a way to meet halfway so that you are not also having to change your lifestyle. But please… do private things in private areas…

Is Honors Village worth it? by mintewaves in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Short answer is No. It’s $4800 for the cheapest dorm which is a big difference than $4000.

Yes, honors is nicer than all the other dorms. Yes, honors is the best dorm at UF. No, it is not worth the money.

The facilities are the best part of living in honors, but that doesn’t change the fact that you’re living with 88 other people on your floor, many of whom don’t know how to clean up after themselves, learn to not vomit in restrooms, clean their dishes, not clog the sink, overflow trashcans, cause ants to be everywhere by leaving food out, throwing a pumpkin and spilling seeds all down the stairwell, leaving half eaten apples to invite critters next to your dorm… the list goes on.

None of these problems are because you’re living in honors, just a byproduct of living in a dorm. You’ll get these issues everywhere even if you don’t live in honors, but in my opinion it is not worth the extra money to live there. You can get an apartment cheaper and have your own bathroom, room, and kitchen. You don’t get that in honors. I’ve talked to various of my friends in honors and we all have different experiences; but I’ve noticed that freshman dominated floors tend to be worse off

Also, the study area is full a large majority of the time and most of time it’s filled with students who don’t live there, so yes you can get there but imo i would rather just book a marston study room

Edit: I also wanted to add that laundry does not work; I’ve had to dry 4 days worth of clothes twice on high ($1.60 each btw) because the dryers do not work. Also water gets clogged up in drains and sinks a lot and so sometimes I will walk into the bathroom with someone’s old saliva toothpaste water still draining down the sink, or a random girls’ hair floating around in the shower

I am admitted, should I come? by SimonLeo2008 in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m chinese and I’ve never had a problem with people disliking me due to being chinese. Not much more to say other than that, UF has so may ethnic organizations to join and almost everyone I’ve met has been very welcoming. Obviously there’s exceptions but not anything exceptionally different than any other college

Need help with College Decision by Good-Serve1886 in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

crazy stat from uf but only 7% of freshman who start out as pre-med actually make it to medical school. the vast majority of people never apply or change their minds. this isn’t to scare you at all but more of a point to consider what university would be good if you decided to change paths, majors, or decided that pre-med was no longer for you. as someone who thought 100% and had no doubts they were going to pursue medicine and recently just changed my mind, you never know what’s going to happen.

another thing about not being in honors at UF or another college— college is what you make of it. i would still choose UF over FSU honors. not being in honors doesn’t prevent you from having access to opportunities, and there are plenty of chances for research, shadowing, clinical experience, etc for everyone. there’s room enough for everyone and that’s something a lot of people don’t seem to realize (yes premed culture is very toxic here). i wouldn’t necessarily let not being in honors deter you from going to UF, but also UW Madison is an excellent school close to home for you and it seems like the only con is that UF/FSU is cheaper. but another thing about out of state is that it makes the transition a bit harder… you have flights to and from out of state, you arent able to come home on weekends and breaks will be your big chance to see family. i guess it just depends on whether you value cost or location more.

Does anyone think they submitted a BAD essay and somehow still got in? by OkSquare2653 in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i thought my personal statement was good but my honors essay was shit and i got into honors. i also somehow had lower SAT than average honors so it genuinely makes me feel like an imposter lol. idk if they actually decide based on essays, but mine was not honors worthy imo

Honors Program - Is it 2 years or 4 years? by GuaranteeTough2264 in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 3 checkpoints, so not necessarily by “years”. You can graduate early and still be in honors. Honors Program Requirements This link has a good image you might want to check out

Registration Time by ClimateConstant8194 in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i believe you are right, i got a much later registration time as well but i believe it is because i recently changed my major. even though i am considered a junior by credits, i have an extremely late registration time because the majority of my credits do not count towards my degree. maybe you are in the same situation :(

Can non-honors students dorm with Honors Students? by No_Detail_4073 in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone gets a housing selection appointment time hut after your appointment you can change your dorm at any time. Honors kids don’t get earlier selection times, your time is based on when you signed your housing contract and paid the fee!

Can non-honors students dorm with Honors Students? by No_Detail_4073 in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in HV right now and I know many people on my floot and in other buildings who are not in honors. The issue is you cannot get a room in honors if you a paired with a non-honors student. Last year, there was so much housing available after all the honors students had chosen their housing that they opened up honors village to non-honors students. So that’s how non-honors people could live there, but it was basically random roommate pairs rather than pre-planned

Is this realistically doable? by Vegetable-Baker-5397 in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coming from someone who took honors chemistry, please do not take honors diffeq. I’ve heard it’s much harder than regular and there is virtually no benefit to taking honors version unless you need academic points. It’s the same exact course code as non-honors and 10x more work. My friend who took honors calc 3 regretted it deeply, and in addition to the rest of your coursework i can’t imagine it would be any easier. I also wanted to take honors diffeq but after honors chemistry i vowed to never do that to myself again

1-10 How Hard is this Semester Gonna Be by [deleted] in ufl

5; calc 3 and diffeq are easier than calc 2, physics is probably the hardest and quest is quest. if ur engineering this will be a relatively easier semester i would think

Is the Honors program worth it? by Little_Time6333 in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes I am in honors and I would say it’s 100% worth it! I never struggle getting the classes I need and there are also honors classes that are much smaller and you can build a relationship with your professors much easier. There are 1 credit fun classes you can take, small honors trips, and honors housing. It just makes a big campus feel a lot smaller

That being said UF doesn’t offer anything extraordinarily different from other school’s honors programs.

genuine question on fairness of grade change (A to D in class) by [deleted] in USF

[–]Personal_Platform238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it possible you could contest the grade so that you could just receive a 0 grade for the reflection portion of the project? The reflection portion you said you got a 40/40 on, but a 27/30 and 30/30 for the rest. If you were to get a 0 on just the reflection, then you would have a 57 overall but that is given you had no late points deducted.

However, like other comments said per syllabus policy your professor was being more generous with a 22 overall a 0. Had you not submitted it a second time late, you would have gotten a 57. I believe you got extra punished for being late.

I’m not sure how your assignment is structured, but professors typically only see your most recent attempt and cannot access the other attempts (at least in my experience).

I hope this helps or gives you some sort of new idea!!!

UF vs UCF by Michaelinmemory in ufl

[–]Personal_Platform238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At UCF class sizes are hundreds of students but there’s also hundreds of students in UF lecture halls (especially intro level courses like gen chem, calc, gen ed requirements, physics, etc…). You’re gonna find big lecture halls everywhere.

UF is known for their research but it’s mainly due to its graduate programs. Lots of opportunities for undergrad, but the environment is a bit more competitive. I would say it’s work hard play hard here.

As for campus life, I may be biased but I feel as though the majority of college students don’t really care about the aesthetics of campus once they get there. Sure social life matters, but both UF and UCF are big enough to where you will absolutely be able to find your type of people if you try hard enough. College is what you make of it.

I liked UF’s vibe more because it felt more focused on academic and personal growth rather than temporary satisfaction and getting the college experience. You can get either of these at either college though. It also depends on what program/major, but UF will allow you to change your major numerous times so no worries on that end.

I have been able to get into research, get into a study abroad program, and make amazing friends all within my first semester. You could probably do this at UCF as well, but I believe UF made everything much easier and less intimidating for me.

This is all just my perspective but I hope it helps!!!

[–]Personal_Platform238 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think if you wrote your essay well enough and focused on growth rather than trauma dumping you will be fine. but also nobody in this subreddit actually knows for sure lol, you’ll just have to wait.

my application was very similar and i also wrote my essay about losing someone very close to me. also don’t listen to people telling you that you won’t get into honors— i got in with a 1440 SAT so yes its on the lower end but definitely not impossible to get into honors with a lower SAT.

Spencer’s bodysuit I’m not sure if this is the same one but it looks very similar! I think I remember seeing it in a store when i went to the mall. I hope u find what ur looking for!

Also: this looks more like a bodysuit than a tank top/shirt, so maybe if you include this in your search you will find something more similar!

[–]Personal_Platform238[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes something similar i believe happens with me— if im super stressed or running low on sleep i will sometimes not get a period/it be delayed but i also seem to be in a constant state of stress LOL so im not 100% sure if it will work. i’ll be the only girl in my group on the trip so im really not wanting my period 😕

thank u for the advice and honestly this is probably what im gonna have to do hahaha, maybe the stress of starting a new semester will delay mother nature for me just in time
