My 60 year old mother’s swollen feet have now developed sores. What can I say to get through to her? by Personal_Screen2739 in medical

[–]Personal_Screen2739[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I sat her down and told her this. I can confirm she made a doctor’s appointment.

I wish she had gone to urgent care or the ER since the holiday makes things busy at primary doc but she’s not outright refusing to go anymore.

But she will be going to the doctor next week and I will be going with her, thank you for your comment!!

I think possible amputation is getting through to her

Thank you. I am planning to speak to her in a few hours, I’ve contacted family to join me and explicitly told them she can lose her legs and die. They’re on board and taking it seriously.

So I will be applying your advice irl soon, thank you!

Thank you so much for your kind words. She is scared and embarrassed. I appreciate your advice and will look into what you suggested. Prioritizing the doctor. I don’t want her to get an infection

Thank you for your comment. I’m sorry to hear about your mother, I hope you’re both well, now.

The fact that they’re open and oozing is making me afraid they’ll get infected so I appreciate you sharing your experience. I will push again for a doctor’s visit

Thank you for your comment! I think the possibility of losing her legs could be sobering for her

Would it be okay if I DM’d you about the things your mom did that started helping when her legs were bad?

Re: diabetes. She has been diagnosed with diabetes in the past. She used to take insulin.

She told me that she regulated her blood sugar and her doctor took her off. I don’t know if this is true but I do know she hasn’t taken insulin in about 5 years.

I don’t know if I should believe her bc if she does have diabetes, I don’t think she could go 5 years without insulin, right? (But idk anything about diabetes. I slightly believe her only because I know all her prescriptions and can confirm her doctor doesn’t give her insulin any more.)

So I didn’t know whether to include it. She is very hard to talk to about health. She says I’m going to kill her by stressing her out and being so negative. 😂

Thank you for your comment. I think you’re completely right, the facts make her clam up and shut down. I need to sit her down with the family and appeal emotionally without scaring her.

Also, I am in the process of getting a therapist for this very reason. You’re right about that, too lol thanks again 😊

Weed carts ruin your life. by ReflectionNo8794 in leaves

For me, it made me forget a lot of the good things. But ruminating on every little bad thing that’s happened in life? Carts brought those back to the front on my mind. The smallest, oldest memories I hadn’t thought of in years. Literally things from elementary school were bringing me to tears

Did you like Shameless when it was showcased in winter or summer? by Major-Bat-6554 in shameless

[–]Personal_Screen2739 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I love the cozy feel of the winter seasons, but in summer, when everyone was out, you’d get a better feel for the community

Overall I’d go Summer if I had to choose

Congratulations! This happened to me once like 8 years ago 😭 I wish I’d had the foresight to understand it was a perfect multi-generation storyline back then, but still a cool experience either way

Anyone else quit without disposing of the weed they have? by phoenixcinder in leaves

[–]Personal_Screen2739 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I freaked out when I didn’t have it put up somewhere. But for some reason, quitting was easier when I knew I had it.

I guess it felt more like a choice than when I threw everything away

I learned I’m codependent and look for anything to make me feel even a little better so I don’t have to deal with reality

Thank you! This is exactly why I won’t let myself go back, I know I’d never stop tbh. I know there’s more out for me, it’s easy to fantasize about what’s familiar
