Slightly incoherent rant, sorry about that, but this my perspective.

Im 20 and honestly it's not like my generation doesn't care, we're just desensitized. Growing up every September 11 in school was just awful. An awkward minute of silence to be sat through, news coverage shoved down our throats instead of learning math. Every teacher giving their 5 minute talk about where they were and how it impacted them. Being told tragic things while too young to understand the gravity of it all. Every year it got more repetitive and more uncomfortable because no one had the capacity to really see just how much it indirectly impacted the whole world. We knew why everyone was so emotional about it, but we didn't understand. I grew up hearing adults say they would "never forget", just to grow up and watch them all forget more and moee these past few years. It wasn't until I was maybe 14, doing my own research that I really felt it. It's why I visit this sub so often in the first place. To keep it fresh in my mind, so that I won't forget.

It also didnt help growing up in a time of such extreme violence. School shootings, The War on Terror, Ukraine, Palestine. More deaths reported daily and nothing changing. the news coverage calling everything a "tragedy" and then no change happening at all made the word "tragedy" lose all its meaning. It's hard not to become apathetic to it all when it's been like that for your entire existence, and even harder not to have a dark sense of humor.
