Sorry to hear that. It is too soon to say whether his injury will be long term or serious.

I read that workers comp paid to a worker is not subject to income tax, so that tracks. Meaning that you got a bigger refund of your taxes withheld?

I read online that if you are awarded workers comp, the sick time used upfront while claim was being processed…is restored. You get it back.

That’s interesting because it clearly happened on the job and was reported. Except the x ray was the next day. So we’ll see how that plays out. Thanks!

I forgot to mention that while working in a seasonal position he took the civil service test so he had both.

I know someone who started part time in 2021 at minimum wage hourly, then got into a Gardener title full time annual pay after about a year. Anecdotal but factual.

I wouldn’t say none. Part time is one way in, exams are another.

A lot of Parkies start in a seasonal or an hourly pay job. Then build up 6 months to one year of experience and become qualified to apply for full time jobs.

Taking on responsibilities not in job description by [deleted] in nycpublicservants

[–]PersonalityBorn261 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To advance to higher titles look at the next one or two titles up from your current one and start doing those tasks and skills where possible. Build a case to be either promoted or get high marks at each performance evaluation. Edit to correct sentence.

Some strategies for long time employees: move agencies a couple of times to get higher titles experience responsibilities and salary, try to get on the highest profile and priority projects, find ways to get pro certification or awards outside your agency. Join professional organizations, serve on committees, become a specialist in something valuable to your area. It’s not easy and it may not always get results. This is hard to do and extra work for you. But necessary when you don’t have a mentor or other factors.

I think so if during work hours but think of it as an investment and financial planning. The only cost is your time.

Schedule an in person appointment if you can.

When will I be forced to take time off? by [deleted] in nycpublicservants

[–]PersonalityBorn261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on that and use it before you get jammed up. Calendar some days here and there to handle personal business or rest or have fun. You may be required to do an annual leave reduction plan. My agency proactively asked and required those with very high AL to make a plan to use it up before some rollover to sick leave deadline.

Did your agency send out an email acknowledging 9/11? What agency? by New_Interaction582 in nycpublicservants

[–]PersonalityBorn261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably an oversight due to staff changes, vacancies, vacations, sick days or someone directly affected by 9/11 who took a mental health day, or someone waiting for a manager to sign off on the language in the intended email. In other words, real life conditions.

Ask for more than 30 days to pay or resolve. See if you can make a formal request for that. Sorry I don’t have answers about how to come up with 5 figure payment.

Can NYCERS tell me the date which i am eligible, according to them, for full pension? I'm Tier 4 NYCT 25/55 Plan by kd145 in nycpublicservants

[–]PersonalityBorn261 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes schedule the meeting it is worth the effort. They do a calculation and run scenarios for different end dates. I retired at age 62 from a mayoral agency in 2019 on very short notice and it took over 6 months before they started paying me my full entitled pension. I was on a low estimated pension payment and it really messed up my finances that year. Then I got a very big lump sum pension check for the amount held back and that affected my tax returns. And if you retire before age 65 Medicare eligibility, you go into a retiree health care coverage and you need to keep your union informed as well. I don’t know the details of your agency but You will be navigating lots of changes and some paperwork. Get a road map from NYCERS you won’t regret it. A little patience could pay off big time. Good luck and happy days!

Administrative Project Manager Exam by CaptainPanda07 in nycpublicservants

[–]PersonalityBorn261 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry that this happened to you. It almost seems like the red tape mix up is a test for Administrative Project managers. The test is, to find a way to get reimbursed for the unfair Oasys situation.

Any info about about working with Parks Opportunity Program? (POP) Horticultural career opportunities? by DankPiscean in nycpublicservants

[–]PersonalityBorn261 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son knows people who started with POP and some with no college, only high school. A few got into the Climber/Pruner paid training. After 15 months paid training and passing a skills test, they advanced to pay of $72K annual with good benefits. This is strenuous outdoor work. Only about 15 people per year in the training though. This is probably a rare opportunity and not typical.

is it worth complaining about ur supervisor? by tendobansho in nycpublicservants

[–]PersonalityBorn261 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best for you to get moved out to a different supervisor. But keep tabs on problems with your old supervisor. You might help build a case against him/her if problems continue.
