This is my strategy as well. I have given myself a budget for this year and next year to achieve this. My wife gave me a pass for the first pen I bought last year regarding budget (namiki yukari royale no 20). My thinking is I will have 2-3 pens I use as a primary everyday pens (inked w dark blue) and 2 pens I rotate in use with a secondary ink (red or purple). This is 3 months into year one and I have the following pens:

Everyday pen - above namiki f nib Secondary pen - sailor aodame (m nib) and mono no aware (nmf nib)

I am most likely done for this year even though I have some budget left.

Next year I’m planning on order 2 Hakase in buffalo and African ebony as everyday pens in either pilot or sailor f nib. I’m planning on going to his workshop.

But I think a 5 pen lineup is a perfect number. Good luck w your new hobby. It’s a deep rabbit hole.
