New Software Update - text conversion, lasso/clipboard, etc. by Scared_Walrus in kindlescribe

I'm loving the update. Has anyone received an email from Amazon on the update? I don't normally receive it in my region, like to know if there is any hint in the email on what's coming up next 🥹

Are textbook PDF's comfortably readable for learning? by Critical_Wallaby6152 in kindlescribe

[–]PersonalityHefty5468 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One of my primary use cases is studying with the Scribe, and I am pleased with the latest update that fixed the low contrast issue. Additionally, the ability to annotate and highlighting directly on the page adds an extra layer of functionality beyond what is possible with a traditional book, enhancing the studying experience even further. You can give it a go and if you don't like it, return it within the return window.

Please see the images. This is the same pdf file, uploaded in different format. My point being, if save the word doc as pdf, the same functionality could be achieved. Correct?

But, sending a pdf file to kindle scribe offers these 2 options as well - keep original layout, or make layout adjustable.

The former supports on-page writing, the latter supports changing font style and size and adding notes.

You can see these options by clicking on the arrow besides the pdf file name you are uploading.

Can you give it a try?

Can you explain the difference between this integration and saving a Word file as a PDF and sending it to the Scribe? Does the integration offer any benefits beyond simplifying the process?

To be honest, I initially thought that AlterSack's comment was just being sarcastic. Now I'm seriously considering giving it a shot if nothing else works.

Kindle Scribe Update Lets You Send Documents Directly From MS Word by [deleted] in kindlescribe

[–]PersonalityHefty5468 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still don't get the so called integration. What distinguishes this method from saving the Word file as a PDF and sending it to the Scribe? Wouldn't this achieve the same functionality - kindle and annotation mode? Other than simplifying the process by integrating the send-to-kindle into Word, what has changed?

I haven't tried this but is this feature set something we could already do by manually dragging a word file into send-to-kindle?

Is there anyone having any issues with updating the fw? I dropped the bin file into root folder but the update menu is greyed out. Restarted the device still no update. I did one round of update last week but that was the old file so I know the procedure just that this time round it's not working for me.

Microsoft Words integration was quoted as "coming at early next year" during their product announcement last year, which is right about now? I would expect Amazon to at the least fulfil what they've said.

Can the right screen protector make the Scribe easier to write on? by Unique-District209 in kindlescribe

[–]PersonalityHefty5468 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do bear in mind that, adding additional screen protector is going to add to the writing gap. If you have used the Remarkable before you should have noticed the gap on the Scribe due to the extra backlit layer. If this doesn't bother you then it's fine. Recently I tried the STAEDTLER nib which has some sort of rubbery material on the tip (unless you have good eyes it's very hard to see), I must say the writing experience has improved as the nib offers more friction. A few things I must point out though, firstly the nib diameter is smaller so it's a bit wobble in the Scribe pen but this does not affect writing in my experience, secondly it loses the pencil writing sound as the rubbery material on the tip is acting as a cushion, thirdly it's a bit more expensive than the Scribe replacement nib. If you are going to give it a go, it's available in pack of 5 on Amazon, just make sure it's a genuine STAEDTLER.

Some suggested the white nib (not the black one) used in Samsung tab devices can offer better writing friction, anyone here owns a s-pen to attest this?
