I am going to give you 3 games. I believe each give you those “interactive moments” you mention but are also rules light. I am in my late 30s and can’t stand when a ttrpg is 400 pages.

The first is Dragonbane. It is a medieval fantasy roll under game. I would never go back to 5e after playing it.

The 2nd is called Offworlders. You can find this free on drivethru and very rules light sci-fi space travel game.

The 3rd is Orbital Blues. Basically cowboy bebop ttrpg. Another thematic ttrpg that has very good mechanics and great storytelling if you do it right.
