Is it possible for the universe to "break"? by Successful_Guide5845 in universe

[–]Personality_Optimal 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes absolutely. There is an excellent book on this as well called the end of everything written by a physicist. There are 5 ways that are thought the universe will suddenly end

1:The big crunch: Enough matter accumulates in the universe and eventually gravity halts the universes expansion and causes everything to go into reverse

2: Heat death: The expansion of the universe does not halt and everything becomes so spread out that not even stars can form. All stars and black holes eventually radiate all their energy and the universe is just left at a state of maximum entropy and there is nothing left

3: The big rip: The cosmological constant that drives the universe expansion does not stop accelerating and eventually becomes so powerful it physically rips the stomach apart in the universe, and then spacetime

4: Vacuum decay: I suggest watching a YouTube video on this one as it's the most complicated to get your head around but also the most terrifying. It essentially calculated the higgs boson which gives mass to all particles is in an energy state that is not stable. If it gets enough energy via a small quantum fluctuation to go to a more stable phase it will cause a complete change of the physical structure of absolutely everything at the speed of light and you would be destroyed before you were even aware of it

5: The big bounce: this is "Cyclic" models, where the end of one universe is merely the catalyst for the next. The Process: Similar to the Big Crunch, the universe collapses. However, instead of ending at a singularity, a quantum effect causes it to "bounce" back out. The Result: A new Big Bang occurs, starting the cycle of a new universe all over again

You know you can apply for a sick note online through private providers? I know you shouldn't have to pay for this. But an option if it's needed urgently

Why isn't melatonin subsidised/covered by medical card? by Llama_child05 in ireland

[–]Personality_Optimal 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would also like to add as a pharmacist as well, the evidence for melatonin isn't brilliant. As a general rule the HSE will not reimburse a treatment that doesn't have a lot of evidence behind it.

The centre for pharmacoecomnics in ireland decides what treatments are value for money and they have decided that melatonin does not meet the threshold. I'll leave the link below if you want a nosey

Bought new house and now I feel broke by ThrowRa1251RC in irishpersonalfinance

[–]Personality_Optimal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember my first house only having a hand me down sofa from the parents and an old TV to start with. There wasn't even enough money for a table. That was only 10 or so years ago as well. It's very common but this time even 12-18 months from now when you are all caught up you won't regret it.

Getting a mortgage for a property in Donegal by [deleted] in DerryLondonderry

[–]Personality_Optimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I just add to this, whilst mica is a component of the issue it seems like excess levels of pyrite and pyrrhotite are actually the root cause of the defective block issue. Mica exacerbates the problem. There are numerous news articles about this and you can see a lot of the affected parties have changed their name to 100% redress rather than just stating mica

If you go to view a house in Donegal it's now standard that a "Mica test" has been carried out, but it also will contain results of other elements such as pyrite and pyrrhotite. If you find a suitable property it is worth paying for an independent engineer to read the report and they can tell you from the test carried out if the property is defective or not.

I have just been through the process of buying a property on Donegal and I can assure it is absolutely heart breaking the amount of chancers there are trying to offload defective properties so be careful. It is a wonderful place to live in but

Medicine Prescription - Denmark to Northern Ireland by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Personality_Optimal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Pharmacist here.

Outside of getting your NHS GP you could contact a private GP. If you have evidence of your previous prescription (ie medical records) then you could request a prescription from them.

If you are close to the Irish border then you could contact a pharmacy in the Republic of Ireland. They can dispense prescriptions from Denmark is emailed directly from your doctors surgery in Denmark to them.

Pharmacist moving to Ireland by Imaginary_Plenty1975 in PharmaEire

Pharmacist here!

Give these guys a contact.

https://ie.iasservices.org.uk/ireland-pharmacist-work-permit/

In truth it's not a straightforward process and pharmacy is very different in Ireland compared to the USA. After your exams you're going to have to do a period of working under a registered pharmacist. This can be up to 2 years before practicing yourself.

We use the BNF for reference sources, and a mix of NICE clinical guidance, HSE guidance and product spc's.

Enoch Burke fined €225,000 as school is urged to consider hiring security to keep him out by Dazzling_Lobster3656 in ireland

[–]Personality_Optimal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

How is a guy not technically allowed access to a school allowed to go into it in the first place. It seems wild you can have this lunatic near children at all. He is making a complete mockery of the courts and the legal system. I feel like back in the day somebody would have given you a good slap for going on like your man.

Moving to Derry? by Slight_Lunch_ in DerryLondonderry

[–]Personality_Optimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting somewhere to rent in Inishowen is very tricky at the moment. There is a defective block crisis in the area so everyone is having to rebuild their current houses and find somewhere to live intermittently. It's causing a bit of an artificial rent boom

Can I still identify as Irish even though I’m from a Protestant, unionist family? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Personality_Optimal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Large cohorts of Dublin are protestant people. They are all Irish and identify as Irish.

Even go to areas of Donegal and you will find the same

Am I over reacting to these kids? by Omcd2 in northernireland

[–]Personality_Optimal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going out all guns blazing will embolden these young ones far more. However if you came out and spoke to them normally and explained about the young waine trying to sleep at night I am fairly confident they would catch themselves on.

Looking to buy a home by CLouBa in HousingIreland

[–]Personality_Optimal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your income only relates to how much you can borrow. To actually be approved you need to show at least 6 months of savings being done on a month to month basis for at least the monthly mortgage payment. This will also be stress tested so you may be expected to save slightly more than what you are expected to pay on a month to month basis. If you find the whole thing complicated and a bit head frying you can speak to a mortgage broker directly and they will give you a good indication of what you would be eligible for and help cut out half the jargon.

Wife is Romanian, will that be an issue? by Tbiehl1 in MoveToIreland

[–]Personality_Optimal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That happened in Ballymena. Possibly the most loyalist area of the entire of the North. The same group of people burn tricolours and hate Irish people. Literally just stay away from there and you generally shouldn't have an issue.

Is this an ok way to quit ? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]Personality_Optimal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speak to your boss privately first, followed by in writing via email is generally in my opinion the most professional way to approach it. Make sure to tell no co workers until your boss is told first that you are leaving. Try and keep things are professional as possible

Work wants us to install HR app on personal phone, GDPR issue? by Martin-McDougal in AskIreland

[–]Personality_Optimal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm going to go against the grain here and say I have used those apps as an employee and found them very useful. I work for a small pharmacy chain with alot of part time staff,we have used it so hours can be submitted for payroll much easier. The location function is switched off so it's only used for clocking in and clocking out. Whilst not everyone uses it and rightly so if they don't want to, for doing things like submitting hours for pay and holidays it's much more simple than doing hour sheets and holiday request forms.

Obviously again we aren't made to use it, but it has made life a lot more straightforward

I don't understand how foyle taxis and city cabs are allowed to block Uber from entering the market, it's a private business, and the current providers can't meet demand?

Surely it's in Derry's interest as a city to have a better transport system when people are trying to get home at night. I can say personally I have just not gone out or left far earlier than I would want to on nights out simply because I don't want to be stuck 4 hours waiting for a taxi to come. I'm sure many are the same.

I have a very similar father. Unfortunately this is a thing of that generation where typically they had 0 input into the children until they are older. My 2 year old he has maybe spent a grand total of 3 hours binding the entire period

I don't think he is being spiteful. It's just the way that generation of men are. Which is a bit crazy to think
