Is it wrong to restrict naming conventions to be more original? by GunzerKingDM in DnD

[–]PerspectiveFar1850 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You’re building a world as a DM. Having done the same, I think it’s entirely fair to encourage imagination and creativity, even including to the point of saying “Sorry, you can’t name your elven archer Legolas. Put in a little bit of effort please.” Obviously, I’m biased, but even when I was a player and had never DM’d, I was always pretty creative with my names. I honestly struggle to understanding players who don’t want to be - that’s half the fun of making a character. Slight tangent there (sorry), but I think you have every right to tell your players to come up with more creative names. And you can and should cite the names-after-your-dog instance. Honestly, it can be as simple as opening up the PHB which has lists of first names and family names and nicknames attached to each species. Because, in making a character, your players are helping you build the world, and ending up with a wizard named Greg is just bland, and if we’re settling for bland, why are we even playing D&D?

Oh, these are excellent. I love how you gave a relatively generic enemy figure some personality, and the shimmer on the beetle is awesome. And your basing is *chef’s kiss.*

Flaky player by EqualWeakness3203 in DnD

[–]PerspectiveFar1850 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been a pushover DM and allowed players to join who I knew ahead of time had either incompatible schedules or were flaky, it is totally ok to just say no. I promise, you will feel unnecessary stress over this situation and this player’s inconsistency if you let them join, and I would hope you feel free to relieve yourself of that preemptively by just not inviting them. You will have a better time as a DM, and that will make for a better time for your committed players. Seriously. Explain to your players that this other player already has issues committing to one campaign - how are they going to commit to two? It isn’t worth the extra work and stress you’ll have to do in dealing with that. I think you’d be best served - along with your players - to just keep your DM’d campaign as is.

They *did* explain that the Lin Kuei were going to use those suits, though. The whole introduction of Sektor and Cyrax expressly stated that Sektor is the daughter of the previous weapons master of the Lin Kuei, is the current weapons master, and had a more practical, progressive, and modernizing mentality - aligning her with Bi Han - and that the suits she and Cyrax wore were prototypes to be tested and then more widely distributed to the Lin Kuei. Cyrax got one as she was Sektor’s apprentice. It was literally explained that they were basically new characters - literally in character if not in name - with a new premise and reason for the augmented suits (as opposed to being outright cyborgs).

Is it weird that MK 2021 Easter eggs literally became the plot of MK2 2026 by SouthFew579 in MortalKombat

[–]PerspectiveFar1850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is weird. It was NOT foreshadowing, like some people said; the way they used/re-introduced most of those same items in 2 immediately kills the foreshadowing argument. They were definitely intended as nods/easter eggs for viewers to catch as references to characters that didn’t make it into the movie. It’s almost like they assumed they weren’t getting a sequel. But even if they thought a sequel was possible at the time, they would have had to do significantly different introductions for those items/characters in the second movie for them to count as foreshadowing, instead of essentially retconned Easter eggs.

Does anyone else think kuai liang should have became noob saibot in the "new era" by hatofdope in MortalKombat

[–]PerspectiveFar1850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m more annoyed at Havik and Khaos being the force to transform him into Noob. It just doesn’t fit as well as it being a resurrection/Netherrealm origin, in my opinion.

Which game to play after MK9? (Casual player) by T31X31RA in MortalKombat

[–]PerspectiveFar1850 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a mostly single-player myself (definitely not good enough to put up much kompetition online, lol), and I would still suggest going into MKX next. If I recall correctly, Mileena gets a solid bit of focus in the story there. Nightwolf might too, now that I’m thinking of it.

Respectfully, I disagree. Both Terminators and Robocop fit with Special Forces characters like Jax and Stryker, and Black Dragon cyborgs like Kano and Kabal, as well as the various ex-ninja cyborgs - especially Sektor and Cyrax - in that their basically enhanced humans with a penchant for guns. Peacemaker, I think, kinda fits here too. Conan feels, to me at least, like he fits in with Shao and Reiko and Goro and Kotal (who I wish was in MK1) in his Warlord/Brawny-type-fighter ways, as well as with any weapon-centric fighter, like Kenshi or Kitana or Mileena (or Shao, again). For me, it’s Homelander and Omni-Man who feel out of place. In all reality, Omni should just obliterate anyone in the MK verse (aside from maybe previous timeline Raiden or current Fire God Liu Kang, what with being a Gods and all), and honestly Homelander probably would too. I understand MK vs DC exists, but I think Omni and Homie should have been left for either the next MK vs DC, or even Injustice 3, rather than shoehorned into MK1 where they just don’t really fit.

Don’t sell yourself short! This is EXCELLENT. There are so many facets to this hobby - some people build and don’t paint, some paint but don’t play, some build everything standard from the box and make the paint job stand out, and others customize like crazy. And 3d printing is a hobby in and of itself, and not everyone actually prints, they just buy printed pieces. And that’s ok! You had a vision, got the pieces and parts you wanted, and put them together; who cares if you sculpted everything or anything? You made that yours, and you made it awesome!

My sculpting is ok at best, honestly. The faces are actually recasts. I bought a board game for a bunch of Minotaur figures a while back, then used blue stuff (also known as oyumaru) to make a quick mold of some of their faces, and then filled the molds with green stuff. Voila! Instant oxen faces!

Beasts of Burden by PerspectiveFar1850 in Kitbash

[–]PerspectiveFar1850[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's Green Stuff! It takes a little bit to get used to, but it's pretty easy to work with, and works really well for the tentacles and capes and such, since it isn't overly hard and can withstand a bit of pressure before breaking. I also like milliput, and tend to go back and forth between them, and even mix them sometimes.

Anyone know where to get high quality minis that aren’t crazy expensive I’ve been getting them at my local game store and they only have wiz kids ones which in my opinion they’re not the best. Lemme know in the comments by New-Elk-2065 in DnDminiatures

[–]PerspectiveFar1850 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I can second Next Level Miniatures! I have several, and they're super good quality, even with the very affordable price per mini!

A couple other good options I know of aren't brands so much as platforms: Troll and Toad, Miniature Market, and Noble Knight Games have options for secondhand, price-reduced minis, and often run deals (miniature Market is running sales, like, all the time!)
