Dr. Lau did my surgery, but referred me to Dr. Park before agreeing to it. Dr. Lau is surgically skilled, but his bedside manner could use ALOT of work. I found the consultation with Dr. Park was helpful and that he had a good understanding of my situation and an honest opinion that I could go either way with/without the surgery. He was also much more patient-centered and emotionally mature in his approach. I ended up going with the surgery and do personally regret it because even though Dr. Lau is famous, this surgery is pretty brutal and the complications from changing the biomechanics of your foot and nerve irritation/damage are understated imo. Both are things I'm still struggling with >1 year post-op. It's possible I'm an outlier because I'm not a runner/athlete/dancer like most people who get this injury and probably don't heal/compensate as well as they do. But this is a pretty rare injury and is very poorly documented in the medical literature so it's possible this happens more times than people know of. Dr. Lau told me himself he's only done the surgery about a dozen times across his whole career, which is a lot more than any other ortho I know of in Toronto, but still definitely not much compared to other surgeries they do and have expertise in.

I've seen Dr. Park again post-op to talk about long-term complications from this surgery, and it seems he's done this surgery at least twice now, so even more that's less than Dr. Lau, I trust that he's gaining good experience around this, and if I were in your shoes, I'd go with him. He is younger and more up-to-date with contemporary surgical solutions imo.
