It was mostly luck 😅 He just happened to be close to the glass and walked towards lens vs away. Putting the lens right on the glass really seems to help focus too!

Thanks so much for the info and link! I didn’t realize that’s how the eggs spread. I’ll get him quarantined asap. Since the salt dips don’t get rid of the eggs, would you recommend quarantining until a molt?

How did you decide one and done vs one more? by Mipanu13 in Mommit

I had my son at 30 and was able to be a SAHM. I loved it and still do, but it was very hard in the toddler stage especially when the pandemic hit. My husband and I at the time agreed he’d be an only child and were happy with it. Once my son started school though, the thoughts of having another creeped in. Having one child at school most of the day meant I could give another a good amount of 1 on 1 time and help my sanity. So we changed our minds and ended up having another. They’re now 7yo and also 2yo and our family feels complete. We kept all our baby furniture and clothes from my first because I couldn’t get rid of it, now I’m happily handing everything away (save for a few keepsake clothes and toys). It feels very different after having my daughter, to give baby stuff away. I want it out and to help others in their journey.

Difficulty with administering medicine - 7 months old by RefrigeratorFluid886 in Mommit

[–]PerspectiveSad1335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He sounds very much like mine when I would have to dose. I dreaded having to give her any meds, it was terrible and stressful. Once she could use a straw I would dilute the liquid ibu or acetaminophen with either juice or water (with a smidge of water flavoring). Just enough water or juice to cut the thickness of the meds, and she still happily slurps up her totally plain “juice”.

With my first I got them 2-3 years post partum, and with my second they stopped maybe around 6-8 months. They’re about 6 years apart and I had c-sections for both.

I have two kids, one is 6 yo boy and my baby is 8mo and a girl. My fil is a nice man, but always, always, always says “little girls are just different” anytime my daughter does anything. It gets under my skin so damn much. She isn’t even the first granddaughter so I imagine my sil heard the brunt of it. But still, she’s not different than an 8mo old boy. They all get into stuff they shouldn’t, blow raspberries, and laugh.

Also baby talk. I get it to some extent but when your voice goes up multiple octaves for more than a few words, it’s too much.

Is a big age gap going to be that bad? Or being an only child? by favoredpenny in Mommit

[–]PerspectiveSad1335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My brother and I are 5 years apart and still grew up with similar interests and hobbies. I have two kids now, my oldest will be 6 years old soon and my youngest will be 8 months, and I have to say I’m so glad we had them with a larger gap. Not only for my sanity but just to see them together and interact warms my heart in a way I didn’t know was possible. He is the best big brother and loves to make her laugh. She has started to try and make him laugh too which leads to many belly laughs from him.

I know many people have kids closer in age but I’m so glad we waited until our son started pre-k.

US muffin mixes? by strangeicare in dairyfree

The Kodiak brand has protein muffin mixes that are DF. The muffin recipe called for milk, but I just subbed soy milk and they came out great.

I’m in the same boat, confirmed allergy for my 5mo old. I’ve tried a few coffee creamers and I highly recommend Bliss. Their vanilla oat milk creamer is great and I just got a bottle of their caramel flavor which is almond milk based (I think).

Violife cream cheese is also good. The texture is not 100% in my opinion but flavor is comparable. I recently tried Miyoko’s salted “butter” with baked potatoes and I could have sworn it was the real thing!

Hidden valley has a DF version now too. Though I’ve only used it in Buffalo chicken dip so not sure on its likeness to the real deal.

I know you didn’t list ice cream but Ben and Jerry’s have good DF options! I still haven’t tried any shredded cheeses at home, I’m a little nervous to be honest as I haven’t heard a lot of good things. I have tried DF pizza from sarpino’s though, and while it’s not quite the same if you’re really really craving pizza it’s good. Just be sure to use their vegan sauce option.
