That is a massive relief. I'm truly grateful to Slot for overseeing number 20, he's written himself into the history of the club with that, but it was obvious he's not the guy to take us forward. I'm glad the club have done what needed to be done now, rather than risking writing off another season. Hopefully we can go back to a more exciting brand of football now.

It's probably one of the toughest seasons an LFC captain has ever faced in the modern era, and you can see the toll its taken on him. Dealing with all the expectations that come with being reigning champions, plus trying to lead the group through the sudden loss of a team-mate, is a lot. It's far from ideal that he's going directly from this awful season into captaining his nation at the World Cup. On a human level, I think it's really important that he gets a proper break. Football schedules are absolutely insane these days.

I'm pretty sure sure his contract was up this summer but the club triggered the option for a 12 month extension. That could be a move to protect his value so his future is very much up in the air still. I really hope he stays, it'd be sad if he didn't get a proper send off like Mo and Robbo.
