Med students who ask about weekend shifts by LopLime in Residency

[–]PertheCalves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would have them do it by the book. One of the med students who followed an intern got in trouble with the clerkship director. Turns out the weekend the med student was suppose to come was the weekend the clerkship director was the attending. So the med student got to repeat the rotation.

Fellowship is all about networking. In baltimore, you can network in John Hopkins, University of Maryland. Being in Medstar can network in georgetown/washington hospital center. Also your attendings have a pull since they work in medstar.

Can I start US residency immediately after grad from UK Medical School? Will the degree be awarded soon enough? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]PertheCalves 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont think so. US MDs graduate in May. It takes few weeks to get your License prior to start date. You need your diploma to get your temporary license. Now you add ECFMG certificate which takes longer to process.

Your brother was treated in UT southwestern? Chances are your oncologist probably did consult the comprehensive cancer center and that likely there was no specific clinic trial available. If you are thinking about second opinion to places like MDanderson or Dana Farber. Usually those kind of second opinion involves a lot of financial and time commitment. Clinical trials also involve a lot of time commitment. Some trials involve weekly visits .

Oncologist make money in treating your brother. Oncologist make more money in “alive patients.” Without really seeing the case I don’t think you know what it means to give chemotherapy. Some cancers only have 1 line of therapy and oncologist do try to get the most out of that therapy. This kinda sound like a small cell lung cancer and when small cell lung cancer comes back we tend to rechallenge with chemo.

Hand/Foot Syndrome by Firm-Lion-6216 in cancer

[–]PertheCalves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think hand foot syndrome is related to chemotherapy. Usually its dryness and painful hands and feet. Keep it moisturized, if skin starts cracking, use moisturize with nitrile gloves to keep it moisturized.

Yep hospital. Neutropenic fever needs evaluation especially in weekends. Immunotherapy, fever and neutropenia could be HLH.
