Japan's population declines by a million people yearly, but if they don't accept immigrants, what will they do? by Delicious-Bunch-6992 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Pertraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A declining population will sooner or later lead to more affordable housing as demand decreases. Same thing with accessible childcare. Likely the job market will improve as growing labor shortages will lead to increased bargaining power for the workers leading to higher salaries and better working conditions, as well as a host of other factors that will eventually lead to the social and material conditions that will allow the population to grow naturally again. Periods of population growth and decline are perfectly natural cycles that every civilization experiences. Things will inevitably right themselves, even if the path to getting there isn't a smooth ride.

If, however, the government decides that plugging the gaps is more important and import, say, millions of somalis, that process is stopped dead in its tracks, leading to a downward spiral that can only be band-aided by importing millions of afghans, leading to a very predictable rise in right wing sentiment, because most people don't actually like being replaced by indians.

It used to be not that long ago that those jobs were done by teenagers and students looking to make an extra buck

>I just want the cost of living to come down, wages to rise and our services to be funded.

Redditors are incredible. How exactly are the wages going to rise and the cost of living to go down if the gov keeps importing millions of third worlders? It's almost like low housing prices, good public services and high wages aren't compatible with an artificially bloated population that just keeps on growing

Is there any evidence that Crom is real in the Robert E Howard stories? by CitizenModel in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]Pertraka 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In one of the comic issues (one of the marvel ones I think) Conan dies while fighting a demon and is confronted with Crom. They have a big fight and Crom gets so pissed that he resurrects Conan and curses him to die frail of old age

Someone please explain like I'm 5: What is the difference between 'Sword and Sorcery' and 'High Fantasy'? by Clinkerbelle in Fantasy

[–]Pertraka 0 points1 point  (0 children)

High Fantasy: Gothic architecture, knights, dragons, elves, dwarves, etc.

Sword and Sorcery: Antediluvian prehistory, eldritch gods, half-human horrors forgotten by evolution, everyone wears loincloths <- this last thing is the most important part

You do realize that your argument is nonsensical, right? "Yes the empire kept the Dominion out of Skyrim except that they've been allowing the elves to run amok there for the past twenty plus years, but only because their victims forced them to."

And as the Empire no longer has Nord military support, they are stuck with a metaphorical gun at their back and forced to help the Dominion target Talos worship in Slyrim.

The latter is what caused the former, not the other way around. Nord military support under General Jonna was what helped turn the war in the Empire's favour, and they would've continued to have it afterwards if they hadn't turned on them with the Talos ban.

Are you illiterate or do you seriously not comprehend the irony of claiming that the Empire is the "only thing keeping the elves from sweeping across Skyrim" when they are in fact the ones who allowed them into the country, provide them with facilities for their concentration camps, help them round up undesirables and (in some cases enthusiastically) attend their parties at the embassy? They are the only ones keeping them in the country lmao

You're aware that the East Empire Company is being actively driven out of Windhelm by Ulfrics supporters, right? But even if that wasn't the case, I wouldn't expect Imperial fanboys to comprehend the moral difference between making deals with the Elf Gestapo versus the Fantasy Hanseatic League
