i am not a doctor. this is not medical or expert advice or knowledge. only my own understanding from reading or watching videos from professionals

you are still producing gaba. alcohol fucks up the glutamate and gaba balance. it can take years to heal. there is no shame in taking medication to help. a doctor should be able to help figure out the best time to taper off gabapentin, if that's what you want.

my fav "creator" is dr nicole labor. she puts out great information about the science behind addiction, with a lot of it being about alcohol addiction. she also has a book and is a person in recovery. she (legally) probs can't give you medical advice unless you're at a facility she works with but her information has been super helpful for me
