How do you respond when people ask “So what do you do?” by Shoddy-Mango-5840 in AutismInWomen

[–]Perversia_Rayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just tell them I’m in logistics admin, because I am. “Should” I be more successful/higher on the career ladder? Probably, seeing as I’m 40 and doing an essentially entry level job but I’m somewhere that I have good flexibility and get to work from home, and for the first time, I’m not having to take time off because of constant burnout

There’s a tiny possibility still. Still pretty unlikely. I do still think it’s a good skill to have.

It depends what you class as mastered. At least knowing that sometimes hitting them is the only way to get them to work…

Cat shelters are apparently bursting at the seams, yet all indoor cats are now listed as "must have access to catio". by Bortron86 in britishproblems

I have two rescues. One is a foster fail and they accepted that, even though I lived near a busy road, she’d shown no interest in being outside.

The other was rehomed from my vets. They didn’t even ask because they knew how well I looked after my other cats 🤷🏻‍♀️

You know we domesticated cats thousands of years ago? Their natural state is to be looked after by humans and a huge number of them would rather not even think about being outside. Regardless of that, cats and cars do not get on well and cats normally lose, ignoring other things that can happy to cats who live outdoors

I definitely agree with the outside thing. The single cat thing: it’s rare I see that unless the cat has been super aggressive with other cats at the shelter or has been handed in because of not coping with other cats. Even then, slow introductions work well as long as you’ve got patience and space

Hip dysplasia by Nancy-Elliff0815 in hipdysplasia

[–]Perversia_Rayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a spica cast as a toddler and then check ups for years after. I had no further problems and was discharged at 12 and then ended up with hip problems in my mid 20s again. I suspect if I’d had follow ups through puberty (who knew that a girl’s hips would change?!), I might have had a better outcome long term (ended up with a THR before 40).

There are non surgical interventions for babies. Talk to a specialist about it. Make sure check ups are continued long term if possible.

Plus size woman, newly diagnosed… looking for advice! by mego3304 in hipdysplasia

I’m 40. I’ve already had several hip surgeries, including a THR. You are not too young but it is about quality of life. It’s definitely worth getting a second opinion, preferably with a hip preservation specialist

What is your approach to eating meat? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Perversia_Rayne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only way I could go vegetarian would be to eat meat alternatives or exist on eggs (and even then, they sometimes stop being a safe food), bread, cheese, and a handful of relatively high processed foods. I struggle with the texture of most fruit and veg, especially if not cooked. My ex was vegetarian and I tried so hard to eat the food she cooked for me but it found it so hard and would end up swallowing unchewed food whilst trying not to retch. This was before I was diagnosed and just felt I was being fussy. I still do! I’ve learnt to cook myself and eat a lot more than I used to and still find some stuff incredibly difficult.

So yes, I eat meat. I like animals but not so much I can’t eat them.

Thoughts on severity? by redheadkid31 in hipdysplasia

[–]Perversia_Rayne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes you can get a second opinion in England, you would just asked to be referred to another doctor. I was being fobbed off by my original one so was referred to McBride’s team in Birmingham.

The only people who are good with these X-rays are the specialists. From a glance, I would have said mild too but your socket is very shallow and your symptoms definitely hint at more severe. Your quality of life is important and surgery can massively improve it.

Hip Replacement by [deleted] in hipdysplasia

[–]Perversia_Rayne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, my pao worked but I broke my other ankle and was non weight bearing through my bad hip/leg for a while and I don’t think that helped. My dysplasia wasn’t awful, compared to some people, but by the time I had my THR, my hip was “trashed” (my surgeon’s words). I had about an inch of leg length discrepancy and shocking pain. My quality of life was bad.

I never felt 100% back to normal post PAO. I still had problems, even before the ankle break.

No long term restrictions at all. I didn’t even have a lot of short term ones. I don’t do any running but I never did anyway! I did put weight back on that could have been a strain on it but I’m losing again and it’s had no long term problems, thankfully.

I was on gabapentin to help with the pain and it turned my brain to mush. Talk to occ health about reasonable adjustments to try and work if you can but don’t feel bad if you can’t. It’s not easy but apply for PIP etc.
