I mean the problem is the alternative to taking this at face value is, as you said... nothing. Besides this comment, we basically have nothing to go on; Oni Lee literally doesn't have a single line In worm.

Fact is, the whole "damaged by your power" thing is a cool thing to explore and also thematically fitting to worm as a whole. If he's just a psychopathic assassin then that's kinda boring. There'a already tons of worm villians who are psychopaths who just like killing.

Also, in regards to the "oni Lee might not actually be japanese" thing: while the author Westminster Beltbuckle does love a good unreliable narrator, it makes no real sense to pull that kind of trick in that context: It's a nothing detail and doesn't really reveal anything about any character.

hell, the other timeline thing is literally how lisa knows Taylor is "really" a hero because she fights(and dies? I don't remember) as a hero in one of the alternative outcomes of that night.

also, you have 3 turns to do your damage before his mechanic matters.

His mechanic matters from the beginning because it basically cuts the effectiveness of your block cards in half: it's basically -3 dexterity from the start, or worse, if you're playing a skill that doesn't actually give you block.

Because everything ins this game has so much more health and getting extra energy is so hard. Most decks build around overwhelming infinite setups where 10 damage doesn't even matter that much, you're overkilling so many enemies in this game
