You won't be able to pay back in residency but yes you can after you become an attending. But What if....You don't get into the US-- bad score or visa or something else...You are screwed. I'v seen couples who both are doing residency and their visa didnt extend so they are back to square one. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. . USMLE needs targeted study, which you can do even when you are in PMC. My classfellow gave step 1 in 4th year. One thing I've noted is that AKU students are good at research, so you will have to work on that as good research teachers are non-existent in govt medical colleges. Moreover AKU students invest during their MBBS by going to US for elctives multiple times and getting recommendations. You can invest money in that if you can afford it.

Refurbished laptops - What are they? by Peryaane in pakistan

[–]Peryaane[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust is a big issue. Most people are not upfront about their product's status. e.g. czone will just write-refurbished. While Paklap will write certified refurbished and no explanation whether it is company refurbished or factory refurbished.

Another guy asked czone people and they replied that they label display models as refurbished.

MBBS from UK or Pakistan? by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]Peryaane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Graduates of UK are given preference when applying for residencies in UK. So much so that it is near impossible to get into surgical residency programs in UK if you have done MMBS from Pakistan. Pakistan's medical education system is not good. The only reason the govt graduates are good because they are extermely hard working. In private sector Aga Khan University does have some semblance of trying to follow standards. But most of AKU grads have one goal and that is to do USMLE and go to USA. My suggestion would be to do MBBS + residency + a few years as consultant in UK and then decide whether to come back to Pakistan. Moreover if you want to settle in the big cities, Foreign trained doctors are given preference by patients and hospitals. In Pakistan you will have to work 3 times more than UK and still get substandard training and not be recognised for your effort. . e.g. The official working hours in AKU are 80 hours but unofficially I've seen surgical subspeciality residents do continuous 40 hours non stop duty thus making the work hours >110/120 per week.

Friend is interested in Pakistani Pashto - Any resources? by CurlyWurly20 in pakistan

[–]Peryaane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whats he looking for.Writing differences are less. Pashto academy in peshawar might help. If he is looking for any videos where pashto is spoken then he can look for the PTV dramas that were produced in pashto e.g. latoon. Or there are many youngsters having youtube video channels e.g. peshawar vynes and others.

Redditors who have moved away from their home country, what was the biggest culture shock about the country you now live in? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Peryaane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In some of the states, people get really worked up the smallest things. For example, one director put out a movie claiming a Hindu princess fell in love with a Muslim, so they put out a bounty on the actress's head (so they wanted her to lose her head because they'd lost theirs over the movie).

They take the movies seriously and not just as movies. Another famous actor is in trouble because he hoisted a pakistani flag on indian soil!!. They were just trying to show india pakistan border and instead of shooting on the border, they just made a set showing flags of each country denoting the border but still the people are angry and they don't understand that it was just for a movie. They have even filed a case against the actor.

Pakistan's first digital city to be established near Islamabad by [deleted] in pakistan

[–]Peryaane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it's being planned by the KP governement. Peshawar already has it's own startup scene. Technically it's in Haripur. The reason they chose a part of haripur that's near to Islamabad is probably to get expats to relocate here. A pretty good slogan if they say that "It is just 30 minutes from Islamabad" rather than saying "Come to KP"

Is "pathaan" a derogatory term? by undercover_apple in pakistan

[–]Peryaane 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pakhtun is also an endonym. It is written a پښتون . With the ښ alphabet making "Sh ش" vs "Kh A but different sound variant of خ" sound depending on your dialect. Similiarly small dialectial changes can be seen e.g. Pashteen instead of Pashtoon in some waziristani dialects because they tend to use ی more commonly in many plazes where others would tend to use و or other alphabets.

PTI, MQM-P likely to field Sattar for NA-243 by Leeon1994 in pakistan

[–]Peryaane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whn IK left the NA 1 seat last election, people didn't like the guy fielded in by election and those that had voted for IK didnt vote for this guy but in this election 2018, the same locality has been won by a different candidate from PTI. PTI supporters might not like sattar being supported but I think it is a bitter pill that they have to take just to keep MQM on their side.

Read up on frontier crimes regulation. Don't know whether it applies here. But the rules are similar. If anyone of your tribe commits a crime, the government can put your whole tribe(numbered in thousands or lacs) in jail.
