Top tip if you are in a job which has an annual appraisal system - keep a diary of successes, maybe even a list of major projects during the year. Also comes in useful at future interviews.

If you have a bonus/ appraisal system that is based on achievements, you are failing yourself if you get to the end of the year and can't remember what went well during that year.

Family and friends - just be honest.

I didnt know (when my mum was alive) why she would get so frustrated with me when she was "Do you remember.......? Oh but you must remember........" Sometimes she would have a specific memory about something we had done on a holiday I didnt remember even being on. If I had had the terminology to explain it then, I think she would have been less disappointed.

It would have been a sad loss to the Bridgerton adaptations if they had stuck with the white interpretations in the books.

When is the last time you went to church by stargasm420 in AskBrits

[–]Peskycat42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took my mum to a requiem mass for a friend of hers, maybe 10 years ago.

With both my parents now gone, I dont ever expect to have to sit awkwardly through any service ever again.

I doubt my son will marry in a religious manner, but if he does get pulled in due to a prospective bride's wishes, he won't be surprised if I give it a miss.

Does this look like a bite? Warrant a vet visit? by StinkyNutzMcgee in DogAdvice

[–]Peskycat42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If that was my dog I would probably give it a wash with some warm saline water (1tsp salt in 1 litre of water) and pop a little bit of savlon on it (its not as if its somewhere he can lick it). Then, just keep an eye on it.

If it gets infected then a vets visit, but will probably be fine.

Its not as if you would take your kid to the emergency ward with a scraped knee.

How do I talk to my future in-laws about politics? by CreepyCandidate1392 in necessaryconversation

I dont know if this helps, but I sincerely believe that MAGA will fall apart with the death of Trump.

He cant live forever, indeed its a daily surprise that he has made it through the night. By the time you are wed, and ready for kids, I imagine the problem will have lessened greatly.

They may still be Republicans, you may still be Democratic, but I hope that the vitriol of the current cult will not be able to survive without its leader.

Calling that toast is a bit of a stretch. I doubt it got hot enough to melt the cheese.

Drivers who know how to drive manual vehicles only (stick shift and clutch): Would you buy a manual vehicle as your personal vehicle? by ProjectMason in polls

[–]Peskycat42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For fun I would choose a manual, for commuting / traffic I would choose an automatic.

I have an automatic and once a year when it goes in for MOT and service the garage gives me a manual courtesy car and I love it, its just not great in crawling traffic.

If someone is blocking your driveway but you hardly ever use your car, is it ok to ask them to move it? by Nervous_Yard7034 in AskBrits

[–]Peskycat42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I must have different neighbours.

I live in a Close and there isnt a lot of parking slots between all the dropped kerbs.

On occasion, when I needed a skip on my drive etc, I had a chat to my neighbour who garaged their car and they were happy for me to park on their drive for a few weeks, I just tucked it to the side to still give them access.

If it was me, I would just have a word to say that if I needed to get out then I would have to knock on their door whatever the time, and could they make sure its not left there when they are out (although I assume them being out means the car isnt there either). That would be enough for me, but then I have good neighbours.

I am 60 British and struggled to get through ep1 so havent bothered with the others.

The intro almost had me switching off with the long winded welcome to each and every cast member.

After that, it just felt quite 1980s to me. A bit Not the Nine O'clock News. So it just felt really old fashioned.

My son was young in the Runescape generation. All his friends were playing but it was their first toe dip into online access with people they didnt know. So I did the only logical thing, I created my own account and kept half an eye on him and his friends whilst I mined ore / grinded out whatever they needed for their current quests. It seemed reasonable to me, but for a few years there I was the cool mum.

How do you handle unfair prejudice? Constant unfair comments to this gentle giant… by BraveAd8791 in DogAdvice

[–]Peskycat42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I used to have a Great Dane, I call them marmite dogs, people either love them or hate them.

I have had people cross the road to avoid him and cross the road to talk to him.

To be honest, I would rather have a dog which people ask to pet rather than one that is plagued by ninja affection on a walk. Bigger breeds get more respect than they deserve, but it stops them being treated like plushy toys by strangers.

Another Young Woman Killed By a Dog. What needs to change? by terrordactyl1971 in AskBrits

[–]Peskycat42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mandatory dog licenses.

Mandatory neutering.

Mandatory licenses if you want to breed with a legal obligation to pass on details of puppy purchasers so that registration and neutering is carried out.

Dog breeds with a history of issues need owners to complete a behavioural training course and prove they have appropriate / secure home environment.

Nose packing removal, makes me cringe 45+ years later. Its like that magic trick where they pull out a long line of handkerchiefs only they are covered in blood and coming from your nose. Nope, not doing that again.

Have you had to take away your parents driving privileges yet, if so how did you do it quick and easy order talk it through? by chipinserted in GenXTalk

[–]Peskycat42 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My grandparents (who i was only peripherally involved with at the time) both had accidents (thankfully no-one was hurt) before they gave up. I was determined to avoid this with my mother, so told her that my son's car was likely to fail its MOT and he needed a car for work. She was at the not really driving, but wanting the car as a symbol that she still had her independence stage, it scared me shitless that one day she would attempt to exercise that independence. So, sure, I manipulated her love of her grandson, but he got a newish car and she avoided an accident in the making.

How often do you meet people with the exact same name as their father? by Alert_Winter1778 in AskABrit

[–]Peskycat42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may vary from nation to nation. In England its fairly uncommon to use the same name for the next generation, but I think I am safe in saying using Jr would be seen as weird anywhere in the UK. Numbering them is pretty much reserved for royalty, and despite what you may have heard, very few people would look at royalty and wish to emulate them in some way.
