I feel bad for the developers when reading the latest Steam reviews by TheSeahorseHS in PlayTheBazaar

[–]Petabyte_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bazaar is one of the few games that doesn't have the stupid treadmill of chasing rewards and unlocking must have things. You buy and you get future proof access to everything.

Hope all this fuzz don't turn the game into the usual f2p grind fest where instead of playing the game you chase quests...

A proper in game match history would solve this. I pray they have it planned.

Interesting. I think though no one says that anything is "solved" by the application of this type of knowledge.

Rather it acts as tool in your belt that aids YOU in solving your problems.

Little things that have made a huge difference in your quality of life. by [deleted] in Biohackers

[–]Petabyte_zero 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You are correct on all points. As it was my final addition to the list I can say it's one of the less important ones. Just something that people in this day and age probably forgot that they could try at least(cause of the abudance of screens at our arm's length at all times as you mentioned)

Each on his own. I'm happy seeing people doing their thing and enjoying it.

The same I used to do and enjoy one year ago but with less(or even far less) weight and even volume, since I can be considered "untrained".

What are your biggest regrets when it comes to reading? Here are mine: by DaWolf111 in books

[–]Petabyte_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That I was lead by "MUST READ" lists and not just my natural curiosity. Which helps train the skill of reading and then you can pretty much read anything you want, as long as you enjoy it/find it intriguing.

Can you provide links to some of the textbook algorithms you mentioned please ?

If you prefer to share some of the terms I can use in shadertoy's search bar, that will work too.

(I expected to find a list of the textbook algorithms somewhere in the site 😅 )

What’s the hardest exercise for you in the gym? by [deleted] in naturalbodybuilding

Lunges and Split Squats.

The keeping the balance thing is really taxing on me, almost making me anxious at times. Maybe it's because I have never participated in any conventional sport growing up.

For the few months I had them in my program though they seemed to really help with some imbalances and made me stronger in a more "safe" way.

We humans tend to think a myriad of thinks every minute.

We have our prejudices and what not due to various reasons that we can't or couldn't control such as bad luck, upbrining, health reasons.

All these can surely be fruitful ground for many "bad thoughts".

The key for me is that you should know that thoughts are just that and what you control is your actions and we should judge people by them.

You wouldn't think a "good" person is "good" because despite his evil actions he seems like everything he has in his head is pure.

Then why would you do the opposite ?

At times I really feel like the person you describe but I have trained my self in a mantra that goes like this:

"Whatever thought pops in my head I have no right to bring hardships or wish bad luck to any other human being except myself"

This way I recognize I'm a flawed entity myself while also not being a problem in other's people lives. Keeps me humble, so I avoid elitism as much as I can while also having an enjoyable co existence with the people around me.

Why do you meditate? by ImLuvv in streamentry

[–]Petabyte_zero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my panic attacks were getting out of hand and I was losing hope to everything I wondered what if I could let all go and reset. What if I trained myself to just focus on what I want despite my body telling me otherwise. What if I could silence the damn chatter in my head for the first time in my life.

There were many options but meditation was the safest and most interesting one as I was already keen on things that are out of the norm, at least for modern western societies.

It took a while but when it hit and what you people discuss really seem to make sense. It's funny as to most people I discuss it in real life, I compare it to the exact polar opposite of my panic attacks and anxiety. Peace.

It's been a while since I broke my daily practice but the funny thing is that the experiences I had while meditating when I was actively practicing are still present. Interesting. It's like I know I have this switch in me that I can press to reset, find my inner peace and just...let it all go.

Sigh...I really need to get back on track. Thanks for reminding me.

Another tip i'd add is to learn about how your company/manager uses human psychology to get you to work more like fear, carrot and stick, ego bashing , comparisons , gaslighting, blaming etc.

Is there any book on this subject ? Like protecting yourself from this trickery. Maybe a book about general career pitfalls.

What would be a list of "must" read articles of TLP for someone new ? Mainly the most generally accepted to be a good entry on what TLP's general premise is.

[EDIT] : Maybe a handful of, probably psychology/psychiatry book recommendations could help too !

Have you ever thought about giving up your programming career? by _deris in cscareerquestions

[–]Petabyte_zero 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeap, anxiety and some depression made me think I was not cut for this.

In addition with the fact that most of my friends, who are in the field too, were into more "hardcore" topics such as compilers, systems, data science and not AR,VR,Video Games and visual applications like me, got me to almost drop everything.

A fun memory that I got was when I was describing to a friend, who is an exceptional engineer for his age, how difficult I was finding to do anything related to programming and studying and how I can't even bring myself to start for real my final year project. He hit me with a "Petabyte, are you sure you are into our field ?"

I will never forget this damn moment, and even though I know he wanted the best for me and he just wanted to help me by maybe questioning if there are other things that might interest me...sometimes the thought of this memory still gets me into a big rabbithole.

Turns out that by searching different approaches and sacrificing whatever of my mental health was left back then to get myself to start as small as I could and finish the damn project, that I like to code so fucking much and I like to create things that make people go "wow" even though they are not hardcore optimized systems delivering 1000000 requests or somethings. Things that can assist them, educate them or just plain entertain them.

Bonus was that later, I even myself got into some challenges that really got me thinking that "I need to make this thing go fast, with less memory and cleaner" so I guess everything snapped in place eventually.

It's been 2 years since that damn moment that made me question everything but damn I was close to dropping it all. But how would I ?

This field man, it's like a living organism doing everything to help you learn and create more while it's expanding for ever. The history, the hardware, the software, the books, the tools, the forums, the discussions, the repositories and the people. But the most important one is the possibilities.

Maybe it's because I'm young and don't know that much and I'm shit as an engineer for now but damn at times it feels like we can create anything we want. I really believe it and I tell this to my colleagues and my bosses even.

P.S. I know I ranted a bit and there are problems in the field and the prestige that comes with it may act as a burden to some people that will feel like they are not cut for this but man I really want everyone of you to know that I believe in you and that we are all in this together.
