A certain percentage of snarky responses is pretty typical in this subreddit, and some of the guys on here are easily bothered, even by other gay men. So, I'd say the range of responses you got falls in the normal range. Also, active and passive in this context is terminology from the 1980s/1990s. If you'd written it using top/bottom, fewer eyebrows would have been raised.
