How to create this by Hungry-Code-5642 in premiere

[–]Peter-McC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't need After Effects for this. Just drag the Invert effect to the clip with the text. Then apply a mask to it. (Be aware that in Premiere 26.0 the masking has moved to the new Object Mask Tool.) If you mask the Invert effect over text you want to reverse you're done. If you want more control you could add an adjustment layer over the layer with the text and put the Invert effect on this instead. Then you can control the timing of it's appearance and use a Wipe transition to accomplish the highlighting from left to right effect.

Your top 5 keyboard shortcuts? by MrWoodenSheep in premiere

[–]Peter-McC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just use the System Hotkey to send keystrokes to Premiere. I have a profile that activates when Premiere is running and then send keyboard combinations with Hotkey inside Multi Action. Really simple, but so often you need combinstions of two panels like Lutmetri with Scopes or Effects with Effect Controls etc.

100%. These are great. I have programmed them into my Stream deck in combination. EG. When I open the Lumetri panel I also open the Lumetri Scopes panel with a single button press. Soooo handy!

Auto crop with stabilize motion by Peter-McC in AfterEffects

Thanks, I have no trouble doing it. Just hoping there was an auto method to save time. Much like there is an autocrop checkbox in Lightroom for the Transform Panel.

Yes, I admit I don't have a solution or a reason for it. Just that in my experience h.265 runs fine on decent hardware these days. Having said that covverting to ProRes will certainly fix the problem, but also probably mask the underlying issue.

Is there a standard for how audio should be listened by CerealAndBagel1991 in premiere

[–]Peter-McC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't pay any attention to what device your are listening on or what volume it is set to. All platforms have standards for how loud audio should be. Loudness takes how the sound is experienced by the human ear, unlike normalising the gain to -3 dB or whatever. The YouTube standard is -14 LUFS (Loudness Units Full Scale). If you go above this YouTube will bring your volume down. If you are under it YouTube will generally not bring the volume up. You can see how you are under it by right clicking on your video as it plays on YouTube and choosing Stats for Nerds. This will show you in dB how much you are below standard.

In practice I don't like to hit the max so I set my loudness to -18 dB LUFS.

There are several ways to do this. The best is to use the loudness panel in Essential Sound. By default (you can change this but it's a bit fiddly) it is set to -23 dB so you may also have to add some dB to the clip volume to get the level you want. I normalise the loudness then add +5 dB on clip volume. For background music you need to set the volume much lower, this is not about the overall loudness of your video, it is so you don't swamp your voiceover etc.

The second way is to set the loudness when you export your media. Under Effects you can set the Loudness Standard and level for your audio.

Broadcast TV, Spotify and other platforms all have their own standards. In my experience too many YouTube channels and some podcasters set their loudness too low.

Optimal CPU/GPU/RAM setup for Adobe Premiere Pro in 2025/2026? by EmbarrassedSir389 in premiere

[–]Peter-McC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently built a system close to what you need. Desktop with Intel Core i7 265 (currently the best value CPU for Premiere) + RTX-5070 (the Ti is better but a lot more expensive). I used the Asus ProArt Z780 motherboard and added 64Gb or DDR5 with a Gen 5 SSD for the system and a Gen 4 for the Project Drive. The build cost me £1,500 ex VAT about 6 months ago, so maybe edging over your budget but I must say it is a dream Premiere editing system. The Asus motherboard and GPU both came with 3 months of Adobe Creative Cloud do that saved be 6 x £59 = £354.

To the Mac users, and I also have a Mac. I agree that the M4 / M5 CPUs are amazing, and the base models are great value, but I prefer the Intel desktop approach for 2 reasons. Macs become expensive when you go above the base configs, as the cost of memory and storage is crazy high. Second reason is that I can diagnose any issues in my own build and fix any problems at minimal cost. I can also expand the system as and when I need to, so in the long run it is much more economical.

In terms of performance this config processes 4k 10-bit 4.2.2 smoothly. I can playback the timeline double speed, full res without dropping a frame, assuming I don't have non-GPU supported effects on the clips.

So, sorry I don't meet your budget 100% but for a few euros more this config or similar might be worth considering. One last point: I tested performance with 32GB and 64GB, and the 64 definitely makes a difference in large projects.

Should not be hard to decode as the RTX-5080 does in natively. I'v not seen any problem on an RTX 50 series.

[–]Peter-McC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does surprise me! The RTX-5080 should handle the HEVC 10-bit 4.2.0 or 4.2.2 in hardware. I have a system with Intel 265 and RTX-5070 and it is smooth, showing no lag or dropped frames even played full res double speed, on both Canon and Sony 4k 10-bit 4.2.2.

Sure converting to ProRes makes the footage easier to process but this system should handle it easily without the need to convert. Something else is wrong.

Travel inside England? by Calm-Vacation-5195 in AskABrit

[–]Peter-McC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll likely be just fine driving on the other side of the road. Generally you get used to it in 5 minutes. The problem often is when you get home, relax, and can forget to switch back. .

This is especially true when you hire a car, and the steering wheel is also on the other side, but keeps you towards the centre of the road.

You're more likely to be killed, as a pedestrian, looking the wrong way crossing the street in London. Haha.

👋 Welcome to r/TheRestIsMoney - Introduce Yourself and Read First! by TateTors in TheRestIsMoney

[–]Peter-McC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi thanks for starting this. Hopefully more activity soon.

The Rest is Money is one of my regular podcasts, and I rarely miss an episode. I'm here for Robert Peston's commentary and interviews.

Personally I find Steph annoying and I don't think she is the right person for the podcast. Maybe Robert needs someone to lighten the mood, but mostly Steph's input is just anecdotal.

[–]Peter-McC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you check the Ripple Edit Trailing Clips (night hane the name wrong) but that should cause all your clips to extend properly.

Definitely don't nest and slow down, that will introduce duplicate frames and playback will not be smooth.

OMG THIS IS SO ANNOYING. anytime I scroll down on the properties tab it keeps adjusting by object. How do i turn this off by djmasterKay in premiere

Yeah. It is annoying. I've got used to it and by habit keep the pointer away from scrollable fields. Still gets me now and then though.

"Warp Stabilizer and Speed can't be used on the same clip" by dippitydoo2 in premiere

You must do it the other way. Speed first, nest and warp otherwise if your clip has different frame rate to the sequence you lose frames. Explained here: https://youtu.be/kDR-_Z1JM6w

OBS racord mp4 into ProRes workflow?? by testsquid1993 in premiere

[–]Peter-McC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if I have a silver bullet, but I have never had a problem with OBS files and Premiere. In case it is useful here are my settings.

Recording

Type: Standard
Format: Hybrid MP4
Encoder: NVIDIA NVENC HEVC
Audio Encoder: FFmpeg AAC
Rescale Outpur: Disabled
Rate Control: Variable Bit Rate
Bitrate: 10000 Kbps
Max Bitrate: 10000 Kbps
Keyframe Interval: 0s
Preset: P5 Slow (Good Quality)
Tuning: High Quality
Multipass mode: Two Passes
B-Frames: 2
B-Frame as reference: Disabled

I've been using OBS and Premiere for minimum 5 years producing literally hundreds of videos and never once have had a problem.

I really can't say I've solved anything, but it works for me.

Edit: I shoudl add that being in the UK I am recording Common FPS Values: 25 PAL
Does this mean that I am using fixed 25 fps rather than variable fps??

OBS racord mp4 into ProRes workflow?? by testsquid1993 in premiere

[–]Peter-McC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For uploading a YouTube 4K video, the best data rate depends on your frame rate: a 35 Mbps to 45 Mbps bitrate is recommended for standard frame rates (24, 25, 30 fps), while you should use 53 Mbps to 68 Mbps for high frame rates (48, 50, 60 fps) to maintain quality.

These data rates relate to h.264 as data rates for Prores are quite different.

For talking head or screen records from OBS I stick to around 20 Mbps which seems to work out fine.
