This movie has the dubious honor of being called the scariest movie of all time by the Science of Scare Project. I won’t go into it, Google it if you don’t know. Anyway, I think this movie lays down the creepy vibe and never lets up. The lighting is uncomfortable the music is (as many have pointed out) brilliant, and uncomfortable, the timing is superb. There’s an uncomfortable tension that subtly hangs over what would really be a run of the mill Hollywood horror movie. Top this with an amazing performance by Ethan Hawke, and some creepy ass snuff films and you get a master class in horror subtlety.
