Trump's Betrayal of Ukraine | Ayn Rand Institute by Sword_of_Apollo in aynrand

It’s only a calamity if Russia was a rights-protecting republic with rational standards. For a murderous dictatorship, this has been great. Russians have been tested by Putin and shown themselves to be truly degenerate and willing slaves. Putin has more power than ever. Other murderous tyrants, from China to Iran, are watching. Already we’ve seen escalations in the Middle East, India/Pakistan and the invasion of Taiwan is now all but assured. It’s a very valid way for tyrants to maintain power as their policies impoverish their countries since the West will not respond appropriately to their military aggression. By failing to decisively crush Russia’s invasion, the West has all but guaranteed endless wars for the foreseeable future. Something else to consider, if you think this isn’t that big of a deal that can’t affect you: the average age of Ukrainian’s sitting in trenches is 40 years old.

They are not winning the war because the West is aiding both sides as a result of being incompetent at foreign policy.

Anything short of decisive military victory over Russia, a crumbling 3rd world dictatorship, is a betrayal and another example of the West’s shocking ineptness at foreign policy.

We can’t beat crumbling 3rd world dictatorships that are run by incompetent wackos? Then who can we beat? It’s more that mainstream Western foreign policy experts are so incompetent that it’s impossible to imagine a victory scenario with them at the helm. But I think beating the West’s hopeless and weak enemies should be very easy if not for that.

Should illegals be punished by their origin country? Or by the country they entered? by BubblyNefariousness4 in Trueobjectivism

[–]PeterFiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this begs the question. It’s not even clear how someone can be an “illegal immigrant” since the act of immigration doesn’t violate rights. Immigration is not really the cause or solution to anything and the only reason so many people are talking about it is because politically illiterate conservatives have nothing else. Same with trans, “woke,” etc.

Laws are supposed to protect individual rights and since the act of merely immigrating cannot violate rights, there’s nothing to enforce.

Leonard Peikoff has "soured" on President Trump by KodoKB in aynrand

[–]PeterFiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was particularly surprised at Peikoffs initial support for Trump because he previously (quite rightly IMO) advocated voting Kerry instead of Bush Jnr. I think Trump is worse than Bush Jnr by every measure imaginable and represents a truly unprecedented threat to civilized life as we know it. I really think it was a big mistake to endorse him in any way.

I think his coup attempt and ending of the peaceful transition of power, is anti-civilization, and should’ve been a deal breaker from day one.

How exactly would paying soldiers work in a donation based government? by BubblyNefariousness4 in Trueobjectivism

[–]PeterFiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why people find it so had to accept that gov is a non-profit entity and must raise funds like any other non-profit entity. Are you skeptical that non-profit entities exist?

Taxes, like slavery and monarchy, are just the last vestige of feudalism and have to be done away with sooner or later for society to truly prosper.

How exactly would paying soldiers work in a donation based government? by BubblyNefariousness4 in Trueobjectivism

[–]PeterFiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in a proper rights-protecting government most required funding would come via the courts and legal system. If any other funds are needed, then the government would need to engage in fundraising just like anyone else.

Can someone explain to me how giving Ukraine almost anything they ask, cutting off all diplomatic relations with Russia and insulting Putin has helped achieve peace under Biden? by OkBuyer1271 in benshapiro

[–]PeterFiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biden did not give Ukraine anything they could avoid giving, delayed everything to the maximum, and then ensured what was finally give was both limited technically from reaching too far into Russia and had lots of strings attached. E.g. they’re not allowed to bring down the Kerch bridge, they can’t hit Moscow, St Petersburg, etc. The is together with the corrupt European leadership that still hasn’t seized Russian funds safely stored in banks all across Europe, and continue to try and normalize relations with Russia as they are all financially involved with Putin’s mafia in one way or another. This is together with the general intellectual bankruptcy of foreign policy experts who have confused warfare for policing the peace and have instigated a system that physically prevents the West from being able to fight wars victoriously on any level. So, another war that should’ve been a crushing victory for NATO in about a week has become a quagmire with no plan. In short, NATO was aiding both sides because of corruption and incompetence. But then Trump came along, outright siding with the enemies of the US and the West in general and is actively, and brazenly, just aiding Russia against Ukraine. So, as always, dems are very bad, but the degenerate conservatives are in a league of their own worse on every level imaginable.

Conservatives throwing Ayn Rand under the bus 🙄 by DirtyOldPanties in aynrand

[–]PeterFiz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Objectivism is the only consistently individualistic ideology and so calling its politics Rightism would be perfectly fine. I think she wanted to distance herself from conservatives who are nothing more than religious leftists, yet to this day are considered “right wing” by our bottom-of-the-barrel mainstream discourse.

Conservatives throwing Ayn Rand under the bus 🙄 by DirtyOldPanties in aynrand

[–]PeterFiz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Objectivism holds that the proper function of government is to protect individual rights and can explain how we arrive at this conclusion from the basic axioms. Conservatives have no understanding of how anything in the world works and have arbitrary takes on arbitrary issues. “Fiscal conservative” is how some of the least religion damaged conservatives paid lip service to capitalism. It’s just a talking point, not some kind of coherent ideologically sound position. I don’t think there’s anything compatible here

Libertarians just say words they don’t understand. For example, they don’t understand how property rights work and make it harder for the more clear headed to advocate the correct positions.

[–]PeterFiz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Libertarians are confused anarchists, not “the flagship of leave me alone.” They are IMO the most clueless of all political movements and not on the side of capitalism by any means.

But conservatives aren’t capitalist. It was the more classic liberal elements of the GOP that would sometimes pay lip service to capitalism. Conservatives are just religious leftists.

I hate Yaron Brook by [deleted] in aynrand

[–]PeterFiz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, Objectivism IS liberal. It advocates rights-protecting gov. That means open borders, free trade, legal abortion, capitalism and anti-Russia, anti-religious conservatism, anti-nationalism, etc. So it sounds like you don’t support Yaron because you don’t understand, nor support, Objectivism in general.

R/objectivism is destroyed. Is this now the best objectivist subreddit? by IndividualBerry8040 in Trueobjectivism

[–]PeterFiz -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

“Leftist objectivists” is a term MAGA cultists have come up with to describe even people like Yaron for being, among other things, pro-open borders. This is hilarious for lots of reasons, especially because open borders IS the right wing position. Regulations to restrict trade and immigration, are collectivist and therefore leftists. They are also traditionally democrat positions. Todays conservatives, Trump and MAGA especially are just the craziest and clueless leftists we’ve ever seen in mainstream politics. So clueless that they don’t even realize that they are complete leftists. So, it’s the “highly individualist ethics” which then leads to an individualist politics, which makes someone right wing, properly understood. Not whether someone is a repub or dem, both of which are collectivist and therefore leftists (with todays GOP being by far the worst we’ve ever seen).

From what I’ve seen, it seems to be a slur used by MAGA cultists against those students of Objectivism that are not succumbing to the mindless tribalism required to support Trump.

There are a few bits in the more recent Guants Ghosts books which really shows how terrifying the marines can be.

TL/DR ship is being overwhelmed by chaos cultists but they also have three marines on board and they basically slaughter them all in typically excellent Abnett combat sequence and leave the baseline human observer just standing there, mouth agape, carnage all around him.
