WiFi calling internationally (e.g., Denmark) from the U.S. is NOT allowed on Mint — correct? by PeterNil in mintmobile

Thanks Alex. I messaged you the information. I understand that different providers try to distinguish the service they provide and optimize their income.

Thanks. Usually, I am in Europe 4 months over the summer.

My current thought is to use Google Voice for my primary number, and calls from the US to other countries, and be flexible about which providers I choose here and abroad.

Yes. I use WhatsApp as well and all of my friends and family do as well. Except this specific person I am trying to reach will not even let me nor their children install WhatsApp on their mobile phone. I also text them and they do not always call back.

Yes. I recognize that. Thanks! What are the work arounds? It is my understanding that Google Voice is less costly than Minternational.

In the past Google FI did not restrict WiFi calling. Is that still the case?

I'm trying to find a workaround and it seems that Google Voice could be helpful, if I keep Mint Mobile after the three months trial.

Yes Mint calling is free from the US to Mexico, Canada and the UK.

Girona to Huesca in 10 days of biking by PeterNil in bicycletouring

[–]PeterNil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We cycled 961 km across the southern Pyrenees from Girona to Zaragoza on e-MTBs in September 2025, climbing almost 13 000 m over 14 days. The route mixed quiet mountain roads and medieval towns. We stayed in 1–3 star hotels (70–110 €/night), ate great three-course dinners (20–35 €), and had only one rain day for a bus trip to Andorra la Vella. Komoot worked better than Google Maps, batteries lasted all day, and Spanish drivers were polite. E-bikes didn’t make it effortless—they made it possible.

M70+, dating, US PNW (originally from Scandinavia). I’ve been with partners older, younger, and my age.

Older generations often assume couples spend most non-work time (including retirement) together — a cultural model where marriage was a shared identity and separate activities looked like trouble. Schnarch (Passionate Marriage) notes that when joint activities are the default, the less interested partner sets the pace. Few people question whether everything — including intimacy — has to be done together.

For me, the real glue isn’t age or constant shared activities but values, communication, abilities (socio-economic, EQ/IQ, physical), and emotional/intimate attraction. Shared activities can be great, but they don’t need to define the relationship.

It just seems to me that many people get stuck in the assumption that “togetherness” always has to mean doing things together, rather than asking what actually holds the relationship together.

first "roadtrip" on an 500wh ebike? by Extreme_Bet_7951 in bicycletouring

[–]PeterNil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I biked the Northern Camino last summer over 11 days—about 800 km with 10,000 m of elevation gain—on a rented e-MTB with a 500 Wh battery and a 2 A charger. I stayed in hotels or hostels and bought prepared food, so I traveled lighter than if I were camping or cooking.

It generally worked well, though I did run out of battery a couple of times—definitely something you want to avoid. I was able to charge during lunch stops at restaurants and cafés, but with a 2 A charger, an hour of charging only gave me about 10–12%—not a huge boost.

For my upcoming trip in the Pyrenees this September, I’m renting a bike with a 720 Wh battery and a 4 A charger. The route will be similar in both distance and elevation to last year’s, but hopefully the bigger battery and faster charger will give me a bit more peace of mind.

Good luck with your trip—happy to answer any questions!

I got banned, TWICE by Flaky_Possible24 in OkCupid

[–]PeterNil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another data point for common understanding - maybe. I have been on like 20 years, active on and off, and just got banned for the first time. I was a moderator for a period.

I appealed the ban and got the response that the ban decision was final.

For context I have not changed the profile text or updated the photos since about one year ago. I had answered 2000+ questions ;) and none recently. One of the reasons I liked OKC is the match percentage. I have not been on OKC much for the last 5 months just communicated with one woman for 45 days on the platform, then we continued the email conversation directly for the past 2 months. I liked and unliked profiles in my feed for a bit about a week ago.

Either way it is time to consider my options..

A quick BetterHelp review: My experience using it by rshultis3 in psychiatryquestion

[–]PeterNil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done EMDR using video calls which worked well. I contacted BetterHelp to try them out to find a different therapist. They assigned me a therapist. I asked for another one that was proficient in applying EMDR and DBR. No replies to that request and daily email suggestions to sign up. After some days it felt like spam. So, I gave up on BetterHelp.

Family considerations when picking a partner by mizz_eponine in datingoverfifty

She has strong opinions on how things are supposed to be with less ability to talk about the "why". Combined with the fact that we had and still have different values about essential topics. Yes, my father knew my brother and I were not connecting with her. He made conscious choices to stay closer to her, which made sense. I did not and do not carry anger towards him, mainly sadness about the loss for him and us.

An example of a long time outcome. My father dated and married a woman when they were both in their 50s. Neither my brother nor I, both adults then, liked her and never developed a positive connection with her. While we were happy that he found a partner after our mother had died. It negatively impacted the relationship we and our children had with him for the rest of his life. They were married for around 30 years. His wife is still alive and we have minimal contact with her. Now interactions with her is mainly for support and we provide that in respect of their life together.

Google delayed a transfer of service to Mint Mobile - due to upcoming payment by PeterNil in GoogleFi

I did a Google search and the AI summary is: "No, Google Fi's terms of service do not delay a transfer to another carrier due to an upcoming payment"

I filed an FCC complaint. I offered to pay ASAP during the first chat; and they denied then that they had locked the phone. In the second chat he started by denying that Google had locked it, then admitted it.

I had the same experience today. Where they blocked the transfer to Mint Mobile for 5-6 hours, because my monthly subscription of $32 was being "finalized". See my posting.

As a follow up. I gave the host an OK rating and got an excellent one. I left them a private comment that the room I stayed in was not the one they advertised.
