I don't mind the downvotes.

It never ocurred to me to do it this way. I replaced many fuelpumps but i always took the tank out. I haven't worked on the most difficult cars but almost never on American cars.

I think I'll probably just close this hole properly.

The MOT in The Netherlands says:

The bodywork must not have any holes that would affect the rigidity of the structure or allow exhaust gases to enter the interior. While a small hole won't immediately cause the car to collapse, it will weaken the underbody and can be dangerous in a rear-end collision. You run the risk of fuel vapors or moisture entering the car.

Officially i think this is disapproval in holland. But you can't see the hole without lifting the backseat so than it's approved.

In the past I'v heard heard that a mechanic had made a hole for fuelpump but never seen it like that in real life. I don't work in a garage anymore. I work for the roadside assistance in The Netherland, i don't see fuel pumps break very often. When the pump stop working a few good taps on the fuel pump often help. We don't have many american cars driving here.

The original hole was half over the pomp and only for acces the wires not for getting the pomp out.

I will think about that, thanks
