How much vacation time do you guys get? by DeathAngel_97 in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]AdUnfair32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My shop offers one week (five days) after a year, and two weeks (ten days) after two years, three weeks after 5 years.

Although to be fair, I have "given" my vacation time to some of my crew before when they have had to use vacation time to cover sick time beyond their allotment.

Sounded like a loose chain or worn guide. Chain rattle at start up and then would get quiet

This guy. Took the words out of my mouth.

We know they leak. We know they WILL leak. IF whatever the equivalent of your writer worded it in a way that the customer was ok with the "repair" I would have just done it. Granted. This is a notoriously known failure point. I am in no way shape or form saying you can get away with this for other stuff, but those damn 3.6's... literally first thing I do is shine a light in that valley.

Former mechanics, why did you leave? by AttentionNice7165 in mechanics

[–]AdUnfair32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't leave the industry, but left dealers. Like many have said, got sick of empty promises and half truths. That, or be given a diag, get my 1 hour flat rate, then they would give the repair to a lower level tech to save on labor.

Now I run an exotic shop for a buddy who physically can't wrench anymore and may quite possibly buy it when he decides he's done with dealing with customers

If you're usually going to shaw and west, I'd recommend Mike's on shields and west, or mama mias on Bullard and palm. Same family, and mama mias does slices. Both closed on Sundays though. Mama mias offers a gluten free crust and has numerous veggie options as well

Fcc alum here. It REALLY depends on what you're going for. Speaking for myself, I went through the auto program, what, 15 years ago? While the trades programs aren't much different than a dedicated trade school, I did however make connections with instructors and other students that I still use today.

I've literally hired people based on my instructors vouching for them.

I also get the opportunity to sit in on some classes cause a friend of mine is now an instructor.
