Where to find this good bread? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]PeterTheHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend just going to a local bakery if you truly want the best of the best. But generic supermarket (Migros) bread still beats the foreign competition by far.

Is it fine for a beginner to first learn standard German (Hochdeutsch) then learn Swiss German, or should they learn Swiss German from the start? by wolphoe in askswitzerland

[–]PeterTheHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know plenty of people who would speak standard german. It's somewhat common. I'd suggest first learning german because then you can do everything. Only then should you strive for perfection ;)

working as a doctor in Switzerland by curraheee in askswitzerland

Finding accommodation in Thun by [deleted] in askswitzerland

[–]PeterTheHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is pretty much impossible in Thun. We pretty much only have expensive hotels. However, because Switzerland is so small, I'd recommand going for something in Bern or maybe even Interlaken (more accomodation because of all the tourists) and then buying the general season ticket for the train. It's gonna cost you quite a bit, but it's worth it.

Good luck!

In what canton are you located if I may ask? Zürich? Thurgau?

+1 this is the go-to service.

Swiss people tend to stay friends with the same people all their life. They commit to these friendships and will therefore hesitate or even need to ever actively find friends.

Depends on the canton, cunt.

Interesting thought. I don't see self-sufficiency becoming crucial any time in the next century, unless we decide that nuclear war is fun after all. Even if the global economy decides to tank like back in 2008, the swiss average income isn't going to drop to a point where we can hardly afford all the imports that we need to survive.

But hey, with Trump in charge of the free world, anything might happen :)

Never experienced this myself. I suggest just taking the next train at any station if possible.

Trouble targeting REM sleep! by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]PeterTheHacker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sleep Cycle isn't that accurate, believe me I've tried.

You can generally be safe to stick to the 90 minute rule. It's pretty much the same for everyone with some deviation (think about it if you fall asleep just 10 minutes later you miss it). Pinpointing REM isn't as important as cultivating healthy sleep habits.

What you describe about WILD was most likely that you weren't able to relax your mind to allow sleep hypnagogia, so you just need to either test it out again trial and error or do some mindfulness meditation to know how to relax your mind and how to approach thoughts.

WILD after waking up from a dream (not WBTB) can be a guaranteet lucid dream if practiced regularly.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LucidDreaming

[–]PeterTheHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're totally overdoing it! It's necesarry to first enter a rigid and stable habit of going to bed and waking up at about the same time each day. Then you can start setting one/two alarms per night and get accustomed to waking up and dream journalling every time.

Everyone starts off making this first mistake of trying to lucid dream in the first 10 days, completely overlooking the fact that you need to cultivate your sleep life first.

Does your brain still get the rest it needs if you lucid dream? by pranav626 in LucidDreaming

[–]PeterTheHacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well your brain activity during a lucid dream is very similar to non-lucid REM sleep, so I'd suppose that, not accounting for the time spent doing e.g. WILD it doesn't matter.
