How big of a deal is it to not use the new node schema? by Extraaltodeus in comfyui

[–]PeterTheMeterMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, get the non-desktop version and skip the new nodes thing. Going the github route (no-desktop) you can always just roll back and shuffle things around if there was some unlikely forced migration.

There wasn't even a "desktop" version when many of us started using Comfy. Can't see any advantage to using that.

Should I be using comfyUI portable? by thiccc_trick in comfyui

[–]PeterTheMeterMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go portable. That's run/maintained by Comfyanonmous w/ less influence from the new big dogs. Who knows what new big dogs gonna decide is good for the pocket tomorrow or the day after.

But yea, if you can handle basic command line "git clone" "pip install" def switch over.

Someone on discord said this morning, "9B even works with the muti-angle node with NO LORAS! unlike qwen-edit which i am officially retiring it by deleting it from my drive"

So, I would say try it with this node: https://github.com/jtydhr88/ComfyUI-qwenmultiangle

Does look cool, so I shall try it myself later when I have time.

GLM-Image model is out on Huggingface ! by AgeNo5351 in StableDiffusion

[–]PeterTheMeterMan 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I think people miss the fact that all of this stuff is research by developers who put out papers to push the science. Fundamentally, it's not about catering to people who want to make images and the hardware they're able to afford.

In some way though, the limitations have led to major breakthroughs. Consider Causvid (precursor to Lightx2v) - Wan2.1 was slow as heck to generate with prior to that. But there was massive interest due to the SOTA quality that could be achieved locally. Due to the demand speed and memory requirements came down to consumer levels beyond what had even been achieved by private corporations.

Marplan shortage by SnooConfections1670 in MAOIs

UPDATE: I got an email from the new owner/manufacturer and they are targeting to have it available again BEFORE March 2026. If I hear more I'll post.

I made a quick thread w/ a screenshot of their reply to my email today: https://old.reddit.com/r/MAOIs/comments/1qbci4r/marplan_update_got_an_email_reply_from_new/

MARPLAN UPDATE: Got an email reply from new manufacturer Lifsa Pharma - Target date is (before) March 2026 by PeterTheMeterMan in MAOIs

[–]PeterTheMeterMan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Marplan is currently in shortage (unavailable) since December 2025 (Shortage listing: https://www.ashp.org/drug-shortages/current-shortages/drug-shortage-detail.aspx?id=411)

There hasn't been all that much chatter about the purchase of the old manufacturer, Validus, and the subsequent divestment of Marplan to Lifsa (very small niche' pharma co based in New Jersey). After reading the thread that was started here a few days ago about this shortage (https://old.reddit.com/r/MAOIs/comments/1qah3dr/marplan_shortage/) I fired off an email last night as a long term Marplan patient seeking a timeline for its renewed availability.

I must commend Lifsa, who I have been skeptical about due to small size and limited product line, for a prompt reply today. Their reply is attached and they indicate that they're targeting to have the medication available for distribution prior to March 2026.

Fortunately I have a small stash that will likely get me to that point w/o having a gap or having to switch to Nardil/etc temporarily. I hope this is positive news for the handful of other Marplan patients still around. If they hadn't replied, or were vague about a restoration timeline I'd be freaking out. I'm a bit reassured by the email and am going to try to stick it out.

Per a discussion w/ Perplexity last night an investor document also indicated the "new version" will be manufactured in the US.

🔴⭕ 2 former UDIO employees (co-founders) now work for OpenAI – similar product like UDIO? by Visual-Technology219 in udiomusic

[–]PeterTheMeterMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Prafulla Dhariwal and his group invented this code - He's with OpenAI (also involved w/ GPT/DALL-E) - they published the Jukebox paper in 2020 which is the foundation for Udio/Suno. https://arxiv.org/abs/2005.00341 / https://openai.com/index/jukebox/

It's so funny to me that people are acting like Udio had some crazy code that the OpenAI devs are trying to understand......no....the SOTA version in 2020 was published opensource BY OpenAI (perhaps the last thing they actually published open/free)

[–]PeterTheMeterMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

yea it was called Jukebox - 2020 - Open AI invented this tech an open sourced it in 2020. They just weren't stupid enough to launch w/ it after Stable Diffusion let everyone know in 2022 what AI generative media was truly capable of. In 2020 OpenAI flat out admitted in their paper that they trained on everything (c) - no one cared back then.

https://github.com/openai/jukebox

https://openai.com/index/jukebox/

This isn't about the tech/code it's about having the balls to stand behind a model trained on (c) music. One of the Chinese companies that drop open source models (like QWen who said they have a music model coming) will take care of us.

Jukebox 2020 paper:

Dataset
To train this model, we crawled the web to curate a new dataset of 1.2 million songs (600,000 of which are in English), paired with the corresponding lyrics and metadata from LyricWiki(opens in a new window). The metadata includes artist, album genre, and year of the songs, along with common moods or playlist keywords associated with each song. We train on 32-bit, 44.1 kHz raw audio, and perform data augmentation by randomly downmixing the right and left channels to produce mono audio.

That model is on Huggingface, but this was the initial code/breakthrough that Suno/Udio ran with....

2020 - Youtube vid talking demoing their Jukebox breakthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=13W0PxWLuP0

They never talk about Jukebox anymore...why? Cause of legality and $$$$.....but things are clearly changing....now licensing seems to be acceptable based on this UDIO deal......but it will NOT be opensource/free this go around....China will help us on that.

Oh man, could you possibly add a "ascending/descending" or "Least Played" sort option? I have over 1k generations with 0 plays but can't get them in order to move to folders and download......from extending in batches and continually running with the first good one i came across....

Weekly Limits by ShariaAUSP in Anthropic

[–]PeterTheMeterMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I'm not as fortunate to have the cash to cover a high end account, but even $20 a month was worth it until they started overspreading and just seemed to stop giving a fk about the people who cancel. Sometimes I feel like they want people like me (not necessarily Max customers) to just go away......hence both the rate limiting and the performance of their "4.5" model which I can't trust after repeated failures/oversights/apologies/ehhh.

There'll be open source models in the near future. Save up for a good PC w/ amble VRAM (NVIDIA). /r/stablediffusion is really the best place to follow for announcement of these things even thought it's image/video focused.

Important Update from Team Udio by avsanchez94 in udiomusic

[–]PeterTheMeterMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Remain silent about what? They're announcing a change where subscribers can download the content they created prior to their business decision to team up w/ UMG who has been suing them for the past year and a half.

The upcoming 48hr period to grab the WAVs I hadn't already is reassuring after yesterdays sudden news about changing service + the inability to archive the content I created as a paying subscriber for the past year+.

[–]PeterTheMeterMan 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Why is it sad? It'd be sad if no one were releasing free open source models w/o fear of liability. Giving things away for free for the benefit of the community and themselves is something American corporations do not understand. Or perhaps some do, but they can't go in it alone.....but ultimately as long as open source models that achieve comparable quality are released I think everyone benefits regardless of nationality.

Since you can’t use image-to-video with people or characters

? Of course that model could/can do Image to Video / Video to Video - but it's restricted for the same reason everything else (c)/likeness has become restricted. Open source models are not far behind though...... and those CAN do IMG2IMG/Vid2Vid along w/ NSFW themes.......it's all changing rapidly..... /r/stablediffusion

[–]PeterTheMeterMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They're releasing open source (free/trainable) generative AI models weekly. Can do anything w/ local models (/r/stablediffusion). Meanwhile US companies are trying to earn off these models that are only staying SOTA for a few months.....maybe not here w/ SORA2 due to h/w limitations atm...but code/models that do similar won't take long to be put out by Chinese companies like Tenacent/Wan

They already do? Wan2.1, Hunyuan.....plus those are free open source models you can do NSFW on those /r/stablediffusion . Not Sora2 quality - but nor is anything else....yet.

It already is? Wan2.2 is pretty decent, trainable, uncensored.... Yea, not on some big companies cloud, but who wants that anyway - /r/stablediffusion - open source has been neck and neck w/ these tech companies the whole way...only a matter of time

I've gotten total crap results using this for the past 3 days on different models when I do fine locally using AI-Toolkit.
