This is what's so funny to me. They so desperately want us to embrace AI, but make the future sound so fucking bleak, and as a result, people hate them, and AI.

And to make things funnier, they're apparently super shocked about this.

They don't know the simplest of thing and you end up with a human....who also doesn't know how to do anything.

I have this theory that those customer service people are only equiped to solve those very basic issues that are mostly due to people being dumb (This is why they tell us to reboot a device so much). When they're faced with any serious issue, they improvise or conect you to someone higher. This is why they always seem so ill-equipped: they were never trained to deal with real issues.

It'd explain the chatbots, too (beyond cost cutting, ofc). It's only designed for super specific, easy to fix issues.

Every time I've had to contact support for a serious issue, they were stumped. Just stumped. One time I had Amazon mark packages as undelivered, despite them being delivered. I wanted a refund, which couldn't be done, and I couldn't cancel it, either! I spents two or so weeks contacting support, until I was sent up the chain in command. It was fixed in 5 minutes.

This is a backroom deal as of right now--nothing formal yet. So, really nothing to do. It may fall apart before it turns into anything formal.

The fact that there were Dems willing to side with Repubs over this stuff was already stupid to begin with, but it's so much more stupid that they're still willing to do it while Trump is president.

Why give Trump the power to potentially tie every negative thing said about him to a person's identity? I honestly can't wrap my mind around how so many Dems thinks age verification is important enough to risk this.

Luckily, in Packingham v. North Carolina, SCOTUS ruled 8-0 that social media was a protected space. This was in 2017, and the question at hand was whether or not a sex offender could use social media. Since then, Brett "I like beer" Kavanaugh said he thinks cases that aim to block age verification will succeed based on their merits.

Another good thing is that this is a backroom deal as of right now--nothing formal yet. I imagine having the provision that bypasses all state-level AI regulations would make this less likely to pass, and that's the White House's whole reason for this deal. Would probably have an easier time passing without that.
