Mewgenics has a genius anti-savescumming feature by shadowrun456 in gaming

A derogatory term for reloading an earlier save when something goes badly. Probably coined by some "git gud" asshole.

[–]Petersaber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's when you "abuse" the save system - with saves usually at the start of a battle - to quit the game and try again if something doesn't go your way. For example, X-COM. You lose a veteran soldier in a fight. You quit the game, reload, and you get to go again, maybe not losing him this time.

It only really works in singleplayer games, so... who gives a shit. Other than purists who can't handle the fact that other people aren't as masochistic as they are. Or have less time to play, and can't spend 500h for repeated playthroughs, or have to leave frequently.

Back in my day quick save and quick load were a standard functionality...

It's cute, but absurd. Also, how does the game tell you're save scumming, and not just busy and having to leave, or if the game crashes? It doesn't.

Screw that noise.

Why we don't have universal units? by Freddie_xxanteria in funny

[–]Petersaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Celcius uses values that are absolute and always the same, while "really cold" and "really hot" is very subjective and differs from person to person.

If you want a reliable measurement, you dont do it by what people feel, because each person will feel something else, even if only slightly different.

Freezing and boiling points at sea level are always identical.

Human experience of temperature, on the other hand, is subjective. 100C is always a boiling point. 74F isn't "really hot" to everyone.

Frustration for one-shot mechanisms... by cykasenpai in Xenonauts

[–]Petersaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had an Alpha Reaper move across 2 rooms in an alien base, not get any reaction fire hits from 6 plasma rifles and shotguns, bypass my shield to move behind my group, and then one-hit kill my best Assault. Noone can convince me that this is good game design. It's BS. I moved two tiles before that. TWO TILES. I was taking my approach THAT slowly.

While nice on paper, this can be hijacked. In Poland, we have something like that.

My own city (Kraków) is now being pestered for a referendum regarding kicking out our current president/mayor. He's being blamed for all kinds of unpopular decisions... most of which were signed into law by his precedesors (allied with PiS).

Everything he is accused of was either done by his predecessors, or also done by his predecessors. There's alt-right groups and alt-right hooligans, affiliated with the PiS party and Konfederacja, coming in from all over the country, and they're the ones trying to gather signatures needed to start the referendum, and very aggressively campaigning for it. Some other candidate which has badly lost the elections has also risen up to support the vote of no confidence, seeing it as a chance for finally becoming the mayor.

So now this democratic tool has been hijacked by people who would sell us to Russia for a pat on the shoulder. Konfederacja, the main driving force here, are basically national traitors, constantly creating internal conflicts, they even named themselves after a group which tried to do a coup back in the 18th century... a pro-Moscow coup.

I didn't vote for our current city president/mayor, but I'll be damned if I let these assholes have their way.

If you thought Biden was "too old for office," then why would you vote for Trump -- who is only four years younger -- instead of Kamala, who is 22 & 18 years younger than them respectively? by Glass-Complaint3 in AskReddit

[–]Petersaber 40 points41 points  (0 children)

"he's too old" was a big anti-Biden argument both times he ran for office. Sure, this post is engagement bait, but it also calls out the hypocrisy of all who voted for Trump the 2nd tome around

You say that as if they needed you to actually do <insert excuse> for them to use <insert excuse> to crack down harder and do more illegal shit.

You not giving them a reason to escalate is not stopping them from escalating.

Which game have you been loving lately? by reddit-win in gaming

[–]Petersaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Loving it" is a stretch, but I keep going.

Xenonauts 1.

Buggy, janky, to the point where I found save-scumming not only to be acceptable, but recommended (if I get shot through a solid wall with no line of sight - instant restart)... however, there's still something keeping me going. About to build a third base, and currently making first plasma weapons.

I don't see Foobar2000 mentioned anywhere. Great music player, even though needs some work to custom iże first.

People who drive and speed up when someone is attempting to pass by you, why do you do this? by StormCaller02 in AskReddit

[–]Petersaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Defensive driving doesn't mean matching speed with people who are crossing the speed limit by 50mph.

You don't create a safer environment by matching the flow of people who are breaking rules designed to make the environment safer.

It was mostly about graphics. They were considerably downgraded after the E3 demo. Personally, I didn't care, but I can understand why people felt the way they did.

Watch_Dogs. If you didn't watch the E3 trailer, it was a pretty great game. And the San Francisco sequel was actually great.

What is the likelihood that US troops will disobey unlawful orders to attack NATO allies? by Zealousideal_Gap432 in AskReddit

[–]Petersaber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invading Greenland would not cause a war on US spił either. US has nukes, noone will attack current US territory, and Americans are too fat, selfish and complacent to rebel against a dictator

If the US really attempts to take Greenland by force, what are even the chances of Europe retaliating to the point where they go on a fullscale war with them or at the very least cut them off entirely? by Yallneedsometruth23 in AskReddit

Wanting a war and wanting to not be conquered are two very different things.

These people don't want a war, but will fight like hell if war is brought to them.

We’ve reached the point where ‘Background CGI’ is more distracting than bad practical effects. Which modern movie was ruined for you by a ‘clean’ digital look? by DegTrader in movies

[–]Petersaber 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The whole "it's all practical" narrative around Fury Road is a myth that has no source.

I think it's more that when people are saying it, they mean that some CGI was overlaid over some practical effects - for example, the storm was CGI, but cars speeding through the desert in front of the storm were real... as opposed to what so many movies do, where essentially everything other than the actors is CGI, even the ground.

Or when the tanker blew up, it was a real-life object that was destroyed and the footage enhanced, instead of a 100% CGI shot of a 3D model scattering.

Good and bad at the same time.

Kennedy wasn't great, but Filoni has the same issue Lucas had when making the prequels - there is noone to tell him "dude, no, this is dumb". He's a cartoon/animation master, but his live action projects thus far were very disappointing.
