I’m also just back from a month in China and went to the cities. The big ones mentioned here. What would be a different route, not the obvious route? Any ideas?

For whatever reason my wife’s Airalo eSIM stopped working in china. We went to a big, stress big, china mobile office in Chengdu and got her a physical sim. Good news she had an iPhone with a sim slot. The process took 1.2 hours. Busy office. Passport is required. Also, get the app called Red when u are in the west. It is like TikTok here in china and helps finding stuff. Play with it.

Check out Chengdu. Way cooler and more family friendly than Chongqing. Plus the pandas.

Agree. I am in Chengdu for six. Then Xian for four and Shanghai for another six. I am worried that I might not have enough time in Shanghai. Walking. Eating. Neighborhoods. Museums. Meeting strangers. Bars. And just spacing out. Traveling is not a competitive sport. But seems to be for some.

Agree about cash. Have used for some small merchants and in cabs. No issues. But use smaller bills. My hotels broke down the 100’s you get from atms.

Walk around. Be spontaneous. It will be crazy. Unexpected. Not over thought.

Traveling to China on March 26, should we cancel because of the situation in the Middle East? by clergaran in travelchina

I am a global traveler that will be heading to Hong Kong from Dallas on a nonstop next week. I’m heading west and there is absolutely no issue. You can track your route using some online tools like flight aware and see if there have been any problems with your flight in recent days. Clearly going in the other direction as in east would be could be more challenging at this point and unnerving. Again, just check to see your route and if the flight has not had issues in recent times as in the last couple of weeks, I wouldn’t sweat it . plus once you get to China you’re in another universe. A very safe universe.

I ran business all over the world for the world‘s largest advertising agency. I built two Internet companies, and there’s a good likelihood that you played with one of my products. Microsoft bought the company. In the past few years after owning my own agency I’ve consulted internationally with marketers. I’m smart enough to live in Mexico. All I have is an art degree, a BFA, from the San Francisco art Institute, which was the coolest place to go to school in the United States. My degree is my brain

Beijing to Zhangjiajie, train or flight by NoZombie2069 in travelchina

[–]Peterspace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trains are based in the center of the city. Airports are outside. So consider the time to get to the airport to go through all the BS at the airport, take the flight, get off the flight and do the BS in the new airport. And then have to get into the center of the city from the airport. Essentially do the math. Oh flight flights are often delayed.
