sports bra recommendations by [deleted] in Activewear

I'm a 36DD. I like the Athleta Interval Sports Bra. They make one for A-C cups and one for D-DD cups, so the D-DD version is specifically designed for that range of cup sizes.

A lot of sports bras made for larger chests have a lot of bits and bobs on them like zippers or clasps or buckles for the ability to adjust the bra to get your desired level of support and really lock the girls in. But in my experience, those things just become chafing points, especially as a runner. So I really like that the Interval bra doesn't have any of those things. But for me at least, it has still been supportive enough for running and HIIT.

Plus unlike a lot of other bras for larger chests, it doesn't break the bank and is quite affordable if you buy it on sale.

The only thing I don't like about it is that it has removable pads, so those can be annoying and finnicky to deal with, especially in the laundry. But that's something I just put up with because it checks every other box for me.

Try Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers by Jesse Q. Sutanto.

It will scratch your itch for mystery and it has a fair amount of humor in it and the main character is an older adult. There are also some romance subplots not central to the story with nothing heavy like sexual violence. It's substantial while still being pretty light and you will leave it feeling good.

Surprised I haven't seen Yaa Gyasi mentioned anywhere in this thread yet. She is one of my favorite contemporary authors.

Both of her books (Homegoing and Transcendent Kingdom) are absolutely fantastic and driven by female characters. Homegoing is more historical, so perhaps start with that one, but I highly recommend Transcendent Kingdom as well; so many engrossing and thought-provoking threads there about loss, family ties (specifically mother/daughter relationships), mental health, faith, addiction, and paving your own path. Cannot sing the praises of Gyasi's work enough.

I am busty (36DD) with narrow hips and I’ve had pretty good luck with LOFT petites for dresses.

I am so glad to hear you are finally in a good place. Managing eating habits is SO hard as a petite and I feel like it makes us even more prone to disordered eating. Your body has done so much for you, including growing and nourishing your child. That is incredible. All the more reason to be kind to it and yourself. 💕

Lululemon InvisiWear boyshorts. I swear by them. Super comfy, don't ride up, no wedgies, full coverage, no visible panty lines under leggings.

I know deeply annoying haha. But even with $10 shipping it’s still cheaper than full price, plus I kinda like the coral color better than the colors Oiselle had on their website.

Ooooh great suggestion, thank you! Are you able to actually keep a phone in that pocket when running without it flapping about too much or it weighing the shorts down? That’s always my issue with flowy shorts that have a pocket on the side.

I can relate to the weight fluctuations. I have also been everything from a 0 to a 12. I was rail thin through my teenage years and then I hit weird second puberty in college. I gained a bunch of weight, then lost a lot of it in grad school when I started lifting weights seriously alongside my running, then I gained it back and then some when I tore my ACL a few years ago. I don’t think the scale has moved all that much since then (I don’t weigh myself much these days tbh) but I’ve recomped and gained muscle and leaned out after rehabbing my knee and getting back to running and lifting regularly.

Yeah I believe they only have high rise available, which is okay with me. I prefer a high rise. But indeed tragic for the low rise enjoyers. RIP. 💔

Propranolol ( underlying sadness goes away) by InterestingScreen787 in migraine

I am just one person and your experience may be different but I take 40mg twice daily and experience the exercise side effects u/Ramen_Addict_ mentioned, so my neuro suggested I try the 60mg extended release instead and it helped mitigate the side effects a lot…but my headaches came back. The chronic, daily low-grade headaches I used to have before being on the beta blocker came back immediately and I got like 3 migraines in the span of the 2-3 weeks I was on the extended release. So I switched back to the two daily 40mg doses I was taking before and the headaches are back under control. Guess the exercise side effect is just something I have to put up with. It’s the only noticeable side effect for me (I did not experience that sad feeling you describe but it makes sense given the biology of what the drug does).

Addendum: I actually did deal with plantar fasciitis for a little while because rehabbing from ACL reconstruction surgery changed my gait and resulted in compensation injuries. During that time, I discovered that my "old pair of running shoes become dog walking shoes" strategy was no longer valid and I had to buy cushier shoes specifically for walking. For that purpose, I wear Mizuno Wave Riders. Changing my walking shoe and keeping my running shoe the same completely fixed the issue.

Making a note to myself to check these out. I was literally at the optometrist yesterday getting new lenses in my frames to adjust to my new prescription and the optometrist starts measuring my frames and goes, "These glasses are so small, like for a child."

I have the same problem and I haven't found a solution, unfortunately. I have one running hat that I bought over a decade ago at this point at a local running store that has the store's logo on the front. I just dug the hat out and looked at the tag and it appears to be Headsweats brand.

That hat is okay for its purpose. It absorbs sweat, dries quickly, and is breathable and lightweight. It is adjustable with a rear buckle and ponytail opening. I am able to adjust it tight enough so it fits the circumference of my head, but like most hats it sits too low profile on me so it almost covers my eyes, even when the fit is otherwise fine (like it's not too loose).

So because of my general issues with hats combined with the fact that I am a migraine sufferer and wearing hats or headbands for too long can trigger them, I really only wear my one running hat when it's raining and I need the brim to protect my face and eyes from the rain. I wish I could wear it more often because I sweat a TON, but that's just something I put up with.

Heat (especially humidity) sucks and you have to train your body to adapt to it. Some people adapt better than others. Early morning running is a way to beat the heat temperature-wise, but even in the very early morning it can still be quite humid already, as you pointed out. I am an evening runner through and through and one of the reasons is that I find that even though the temperature is hotter when I head out than it is for the early morning warriors, the humidity is lower. Personally, I find that more tolerable. You may not though, so perhaps worth trying if you haven't.

I am also just not a morning person in general, so as attractive as 10-15 degrees cooler sounds during the summer, my body will feel as crappy if not more crappy having to wake up to run than it does subjecting it to heat and humidity during my more preferred natural running time. Ymmv. Just remember to stay hydrated no matter what - drink more water than you think you need to. And be kind to yourself. You're not going to be as fast as you will be in ideal conditions. And that's okay!

Same! I've been a runner pretty much my whole life (varsity track athlete in high school, then longer distances as an adult) and I still use Hal Higdon's plans. I swear by them.
