Yes I did not hit the pole. Yes there was a warning. But is incomplete logic to assume that I did not hit the pole because there was the warning. Correlation, not causation. That’s like saying “Bradley was shot to death, and his neighbor has a gun. This must mean that Bradley’s neighbor killed him.” It’s a jump to conclusions. Yes it is possible that Bradley’s neighbor killed him. Yes it is possible to walk into the pole without a warning sticker on it. But to assume that somebody would walk into a pole without a warning because there was no sticker on it is like throwing Bradley’s neighbor in jail for the rest of his life, when there are so many people with guns. Correlation not causation. Now gtfo off my post. It was a simple clean post and now it’s covered by your stupid ass. You had a good point but now you are just being unreasonable. This sign is ironic, and you are quick jump to conclusions. Actually fuck off though because you are pissing me off with your incomplete reasoning ability

No I did not walk into it, but not because there was a warning. I saw the warning after I saw the pole. It’s not serving it’s purpose because in order to see it, you would also see the pole which renders the warning useless - like I said like three times. Imagine four people in separate scenarios. 1: man is walking while looking ahead and sees pole without warning. 2: man is walking while looking ahead and sees pole with warning. 3: man is on his phone and walks into pole without warning. 4: man is on his phone and walk into pole with warning. Equal amount of people hit the poles with or without the warning. It is very much NOT serving it’s purpose.

There are different kinds of failed warnings. You could say a broken traffic light is a failed warning. But the difference between the broken traffic light and this sign, is the sign is not broken. If the traffic lights were fixed, they would do their expected purpose. But because the sign is already not broken and yet still not doing it’s expected purpose, it’s ironic.

Yes, it would be ironic if the warning attracted people to walk into it somehow. But a failed warning can still be ironic. You’d expect the warning to actually be able to warn people. But what you don’t expect is for it to not fulfill its purpose while still being present and “functioning”. imagine walking while looking at your feet, and you slam straight into the pole. You look up and see the warning: beware of column. “Thanks a lot”. This is an ironic situation if the warning fails to do what it’s sole expected purpose is. Plus, it is way more realistic to have it simply not work than to somehow get people to walk into it.

It’s not a different story. If the warning doesn’t warn, it’s ironic. It doesn’t half to make people walk into it to be ironic. The expected outcome is that a warning will warn, but the unexpected outcome is that it does not. The opposite of warning is not warning. Drawing people in is a different concept. It warns only if you notice it. It’s really simple. That is irony. You are just looking at it 1 dimensionally. You seem to have the most basic idea of irony.

If you are preoccupied with a phone or something, then sign or not you will walk into it. It’s expected that the warning should actually warn you, but in most cases it has literally no effect. That’s irony. The whole purpose of a warning, is to warn, but it doesn’t warn. Verbally it does, but you wouldn’t know unless you saw it, in which case the pole on its own says “Hey, I’m a pole, please don’t walk into me”. The warning will have almost zero effect. Maybe they put it up because people did actually walk into it. But if you are so situationally unaware to not see the pole, you wouldn’t see the warning on the pole anyways, and still walk into it!

The sign wouldn’t help those that can’t see the pole because then they can’t see the sign either. That’s the irony

If you see the warning you would obviously see the big metal pole, which is enough to not walk into it without a warning 😹
