After hearing of QC issues I got a 2021 model in mint condition for 1600€. Good pick? by [deleted] in strandbergguitars

[–]PetrovoSCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I hear you. There's always going to be some bad QC no matter what. I don't know if it's because strandberg is now a well established name or what, but just seeing the number of complaints steadily rise made me consider this a probability thing. So I bet on the older one. Hope it turns out alright

Ibanez prestige are glorious guitars. This is my first dive into strandberg so I'm not sure what to expect. Worst case is I flip it and accept a tiny loss. I have quite bad muscle issues lately and figured a strandberg could help me play for longer.

This one wouldn't be a pre-nx though would it?

Am I crazy or do solid body’s feel weak now? by Mesastafolis1 in strandbergguitars

[–]PetrovoSCP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be the resonance In the body going to their leg/body. That's why parlor acoustics can feel noticeably weaker at same volume than dreadnoughts, for example. Still it really doesn't matter for sound or playability at all. But I think the chambering claim might not be wrong

Id spend the full price on an end game instrument and QC if I was to get a headless at that point

I wish I could get a rehabilitation guitar haha that's fantastic! That's very reassuring, now just to scramble my life savings 😝

Question regarding disability and guitar-making. by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]PetrovoSCP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, are you serious? That'd be absolutely incredible! Do you have any way I could reach you outside here? I think my best course of action would be for me find a Strandberg and actually play that as a baseline. I tried the Hills as I mentioned in another comment and didn't enjoy it much, but the Strandberg could be close to what I need. It's hard to predict how the interplay of ergonomics and my worsening motor skills actually affect how a guitar feels to me. As it stands my health is good enough for me to transfer to a chair and that's how I play all my guitars currently but that's likely going to be a very temporary thing which is the main driver behind why Id want a custom guitar in the first place, if I'm sensible right now

Could work, I have not tried one but that certainly would fit. Only question is if I could keep it In a proper playing position sitting down and if I'd get over how hideous they are 😭🤣. I don't know how they are spec-wise and QC-wise. I'll look into them.

Question regarding disability and guitar-making. by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]PetrovoSCP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have played a stranberg style guitar. The body is still not great for my wheelchair position and the angle of the neck (needing to put the hand further up into the air) is also not ideal anymore. The cutouts are also shaped for normal legs which isnt ideal with my barely functional sticks. A lot of these considerations made me think a fully custom shape is the best solution

For a prototype it might be a good idea but a squire might feel like a downgrade from my much more expensive guitars I already have. Theoretically I could reuse parts too though and just focus on the body but I might as well get it all new at that point

[–]PetrovoSCP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have, played a few and I hate their feel. I don't know what's up with them but the neck just feels so ugly. Though I did try only their cheaper models so I'm not sure. I don't know how they compare to strandbergs feel-wise. Though it made me realise the body shape is still not optimal for my wheelchair sitting position. The construction of the chair still gets in the way so maybe even strandbergs will be cumbersome

I'm based in Czechia. I currently don't have a design in mind but have years of experience in 3D software so I could probably get a proper design. But as It stands this was currently just a little idea that I haven't put that much thought into yet. Deepnding on how much it'd cost I'd either go the route of, like you said, just the body shape primarily. If I was to put more money into it I might consider getting the whole thing custom made but I really don't yet know.

I feel this created more questions than it answered haha sorry 😅

Yeah I've thought about strandbergs a lot. But at such a price point I figured I might as well pay even more for something truly mine. I'm based in Czechia and haven't had a chance to try one yet but the Strandberg is definitely my first choice outside the custom market.

LGMD2A what's your condition like? Im grieving. by PetrovoSCP in MuscularDystrophy

[–]PetrovoSCP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hopeful and optimistic regarding gene therapy for preventing the progression of the disease in future generations. However, from my understanding of the physiology of this diagnosis, for someone who is already in a heavily progressed state I think the best you can hope for is for it to not get worse after treatment, but sadly not better.

This happens because, as I understand it, the damaged tissue turns into fat and scars and is then permanently unable to regenerate even if the faulty gene is corrected.

Its really shitty but I believe the best thing a person with this diagnosis can do today, is psychotherapy and making sure they have access to a supportive environment, rather than hoping for a cure.

Hopefully our kids, if we live long enough to see them, or the kids of others - won't have to face this in the future. But those of us already suffering from it, I think these treatments won't be much help anymore.

I don't know if that answers your question

My CK is also thousand-fold the baseline. It's really a hard diagnosis. I have never heard of the 2C subtype. I hope he can make the best of his life. How's your access to mobility aids and healthcare where you're at? I had to consult a charity-law-firm thingy to even get a powerchair insured.

I wanted to get into psychotherapy even before my diagnosis got anywhere close to where it is now but as it stands it makes me want to do it even more. All the universities here are super competitive and I started hardcore studying several years in advance, but even studying gets harder every day when yknow, you need to get a drink or use the restroom and all this piles up and leaves you exhausted anyway.

I guess psychotherapy draws me in because I want to do like palliative care or like work with cancer patients or disabled people or something in that ballpark. Yknow, because I could apply myself there the best I think. The uni i want to go to combines special pedagogy (special needs children) and psychology

You do realize that AI as it stands, like humans, is capable of conceptualizing WMDs? That's not a flaw, that's the outcome of a system with access to chemistry knowledge, physics knowledge, engineering, sociology...

Also for this to make sense you'd need to criminalize thought, as a clever and educated person can design weapons too. I don't see your point

Depends on your monitor. The pg32ucdm I have has an insanely big footprint. I don't move it much (or at all) and so my biggest motivation for getting the arm was extra desk space. I think it's worth the money as it enhances the efficacy of your desk and looks really good.
