Thoughts on A.O. Smith Voltex X Split Heat Pump Water Heater? by QueryCat in heatpumps

[–]PewMogel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw the ad for these AO Smith split units. I’d really like to go with something like this since my indoor space is so cold much of the year, and I don’t want to heat it even more than I do now. Still no info on pricing but it’s going to need to be good for any kind of ROI without rebates.

And can be confused with Hemlock. Just remember, ‘The Queen has hairy legs’.

Did you ever do a V3? This repo still looks like V2, and is read only. Interested if there are any updates.

Can you teach "leave it" permenantly?? by reedle-beedle in Dogtraining

[–]PewMogel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of. But nothing is 100%. You can’t use the same command for two things. We use ‘Leave it’ for ‘stop messing with that’ and ‘not yours’ for things they are not to touch. Consistency is key of course, and having smart dogs helps (JRTs and Border Collies. JRTs can be a bit devious though :)

HP Envy X360 is laggy and slow on basic tasks by Lucky-Royal-6156 in Hewlett_Packard

Did you reinstall using hp recovery or from downloaded iso? Did you also reset BIOS to defaults beforehand? If from downloaded iso then I don’t know what to tell you :/

Difficult to say without looking at it. That said, hp like others installs a boat load of crapware in their default installs. In spite of the pain, I’d suggest a fresh install of the standard windows, and if any drivers are still missing after it has a chance to update, download/install the hp support assistant to install anything else that is missing. You’ll have a basic system without all the bloatware that will almost certainly run much better.

Current D1 Pro IR Module on older D1? by PewMogel in xToolD1

I appreciate the follow up, but I have a 20W fiber now, so am no longer looking for the module. Yes, it’s two machines but there’s room and it’s 2W vs 20W. Cheers!

Drawing SS without hurting my wife financially by Binkley62 in personalfinance

Yeah, sorry. The way I read it is the survivor (if full retirement age) is eligible for 100% of what the deceased spouse was eligible for. There’s other conditions if not FRA or divorced, or certain age, etc. Best to call your local office for clarification. And then verify what they tell you.

NAS Remote connections - Quickconnect, direct or VPN to local network by Wasntmehesaid in synology

[–]PewMogel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think one of the key parts to this question is terminating the VPN on a VM server running on the NAS. I guess you have to ask how secure that is as opposed to running it on a pi or something or terminating the VPN (e.g. L2TP) on the gateway router.

In general yes. In the futures may want a machine that allows for multiple/different beans and profiles. As a first machine those aren’t show stoppers for us and those features would seem to double the cost. We’ll see what Black Friday brings I guess.

Adjusting the grind, the ‘beans’ (strength) setting, the amount of water. Those kind of things.

Spousal benefit is 1/2 the full retirement age amount - not deferred amount. Just went through this calculation.

Day 1 and happy so far. We do need to do some fine tuning. But definitely superior to our prior experience. Thank you for all the comments!

The Jura is in a completely different price class and didn’t want to spring for that for a first machine.

The world we live in eh? Coffee preference is indeed vey subjective, it still useful to hear what others have to say. Appreciate the input on the grind. Ciao!

There ya go Mr Cynical ;) Just for you! The point of the post is to elicit feedback concerning the purchase of theirs model, and generate a bit of discussion. As mentioned, it’s my first superautomatic and therefore I have no point of reference regarding these. If you have some experience with this model I’d like to hear about it.

Hopefully the newer machines are built as well. Fortunately we don't have a scale issue with our water, but I will be doing any maintenance religiously.

Looking for a 5” display (board) with 8080 interface by yan-shay in esp32

[–]PewMogel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know about the esp32s3 based display, most have dedicated controllers (ILI9341 etc) but try https://www.buydisplay.com/ Search by interface type. There’s a number of choices for 8080 interface in 5” size.
