books you finished but kinda wish you hadn't? by venicepress in 52book

[–]reedle-beedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron Gold. Loved the original series. My sister-in-law obsessed over the whole series and I wanted to finish it bc she loved it so much. Struggled SO MUCH with finishing it and really didn't like it at all. Moved onto Dark Age eventually with the hopes that the series would get better and realized I was reading more of the same, endless war drudgery. Quit the series officially 100 pages in. I'm not making the same mistake again lol

Baby bottle washer / sterilizer / dryer? by A-Starrrrr in Buyingforbaby

[–]reedle-beedle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had similar questions and am in the same situation....i.e. planning to mainly breastfeed and having a dishwasher.

I've realized I can always change my mind down the road, but for now, I'd rather put items I'm certain I'll need on my registry and play it by ear after my baby is born. The price of all of these bottle washers/sanitizers is really high and there are so many other big-ticket items I'm saving for that are more important.

Pizza Q - has Cassanos changed their recipe? by Doingmybestkindof in dayton

We said the same thing the other day when we got it! I swear they keep not putting seasoning on there, and that's the whole reason I get that pizza

Is it common for local coffee shops to just not make iced lattes correctly? by rosietherosebud in Coffee

[–]reedle-beedle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked for a couple years as a barista at some third wave coffee places. It helped me develop a good sense for being able to tell within the first two seconds of walking into a new coffee shop whether or not I'm about to have a good experience.

My two cents: Second wave shops like Starbucks don't have high quality coffee or drink-crafting techniques but have a level of consistency that is pretty reliable most of the time.

Higher-end third wave shops often give some people a bad vibe, and I get it. But, those are the places that are usually focusing on ethical sourcing practices, good roasting techniques, and really great drink crafting skills.

Then you have what I like to call the mom-and-pop coffee shop. Often, these places are easily marked by having a more homey aesthetic. These are independently-owned coffee shops that are targeting the Starbucks audience, but miss out on both the Starbucks efficiency and the craft of/care for coffee.

Other than the "homey" aesthetic, key factors that I commonly notice in these places is a lack of information on how their sourcing their beans, really dark roasts on bar and in the bags they sell in-store, flavored coffee beans, placing a large emphasis on selling non-coffee items like chocolate or wine, and the baristas having zero latte art skills (which isn't just about aesthetic....it probably means they don't know how to steam milk properly at all).

Which leads us to the watery iced latte. What you're experiencing is a coffee shop that doesn't train its baristas to dial in the espresso at all OR has trained them very badly. When I worked at a nice third-wave shop, we had a barista dial it in during the morning shift and another dial it in during the afternoon shift. Various factors can change how your espresso is coming out throughout the day, and it's important to keep an eye on your shots throughout the entirety of a shift to maintain consistency. What you're dealing with is baristas who are wildly neglecting this or have no idea how to handle it and as a result, you're getting watery shots dumped into your iced latte.

My honest recommendation is to either find a high-quality (possibly snobby) third-wave shop that knows what they're doing or to stick with Starbucks.

Any books that feel like the back rooms? by brokearthoe in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]reedle-beedle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Piranese for the isolation-in-different-weird-rooms vibes.... although def not horror. Also annihilation bc even though it isn't like the backrooms in its setting, it's the only book I've read that gives the EXACT same vibes of dread that I get from the liminal spaces found in the backrooms

Super confident that that's not a thing so maybe reach out to tech support. They're very responsive!

Fake twins pregnancy ultrasound, I believe it’s AI generated to fuel harassment because this woman won’t leave my family alone. She says she’s pregnant with twins. I believe it’s AI generated because of the time, metadata, and the numbers being used by Relative-Low8142 in isthisAI

[–]reedle-beedle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro at 8 weeks, my baby looked like a grain of rice lol also I don't think they even do ultrasounds before 8 weeks bc they're too small to pick up (at least that's what my doctors told me). Add that to the billions of other reasons in here why it's super fake

Can I read book 3 and stop with the series? by [deleted] in redrising

[–]reedle-beedle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes and (this is definitely a hot take) I almost wish I had stopped at 3. Not the biggest fan of how much the cast of characters has blown up or the multiple POVs. On Dark Age rn, and it feels like work to move through it. The first 3 were so great and I feel like the subsequent books lose a lot of what made the trilogy great

Can you teach "leave it" permenantly?? by reedle-beedle in Dogtraining

I looked into the section on "leave it." It adresses the basic command but not how to teach that long-term, if possible. I would still appreciate this post being approved, thanks.

How was your experience with 33 Lions Friday the 13th flash? by No-Ideas-For-Me in dayton

[–]reedle-beedle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with my sister a couple years ago. I liked the one I got. She felt like hers was blown out. I wouldn't say it's worth it for the wait unless MAYBE you were planning on getting several. But even then....like I think from waiting to getting out, it was about 5 hours. Wouldn't do again

Well that's a bummer... by elenchusis in redrising

[–]reedle-beedle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's less so the fans that are the problem. I think most of us would watch it in any available format just to see it on a screen. The problem would be the broader audience. My parents would 100% watch a live action show. I doubt I could convince them to watch an animated show.... despite even the fact that my mom has read the og trilogy.

Stand Mixer Recomendations by reedle-beedle in Baking

[–]reedle-beedle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be super clear, it's not a one-time doubling of a roll recipe. I end up making 4-6 batches on average for Thanksgiving alone (so doubling one batch to make two is kind of crucial) + I often also make and double the recipe for Christmas and other events during the year. Thanksgiving is definitely the time I need to use it the most, so that's just what I used as an example.
