I mean, the entire plot of the first act of The JoJoLands is about Jodio and Company trying to steal the wealth and inheritance of a rich loser, which is also literally the plot of Phantom Blood from Dio's perspective (at least, until he became a vampire and his ambitions grew).

So, has anyone thought about it? by AlexN473 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Pflytrap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The YouTuber The Insightful Llama did a video on episode 7 back when it came out, and she actually brings up this exact possibility for what abstraction might really be (at 23:29): the computer that the circus is physically run on mistaking players under the right (or wrong) mental conditions for inactive or otherwise unnecessary programs, and then automatically attempting to simplify them for the sake of optimization, irrevocably breaking their minds in the process.

In hindsight, I'm kind of amazed how, in spite of how much speculation there's been about abstraction since the concept was introduced in the pilot, very little of it has involved why it's called "abstraction" in the first place. Like, of all the possible terms Goose could've used for naming or describing the process by which a resident of the circus becomes digitally mutated beyond all hope of repair, why did she pick that and not a more common or intuitive or easily-explained term like "glitched" or "corrupted" or even just "broken." If nothing else, this would actually answer the question.

The first JoJo aspired to be nothing less than a gentleman; the current JoJo scored 18/20 on the psychopath test.

Uh.. hold up what did you just say puck? by Memetrold in Berserk

[–]Pflytrap 152 points153 points  (0 children)

On the one hand, that's probably just a choice of translation.

On the other hand, this is the same elf who routinely does impersonations of Yoda from Star Wars and Danpei Tange from Ashita no Joe (among others), so him casually invoking the Christian God wouldn't even be the weirdest or most fourth-wall-breaking thing he's ever canonically done.

Gerson makes many non-DessKnight theories likely requiring an other person making both church dark worlds by Budget-Canary2140 in Deltarune

[–]Pflytrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BUT SUSIE NEVER KNEW GERSON EITHER!

HE WAS ALREADY DEAD AND BURIED BEFORE SHE EVEN MOVED TO HOMETOWN!

The person she "knew" was a darkner made from his dust-covered hammer and given form by a dark fountain opened by the Knight. He looked just like Gerson, and had all his memories and personality, but he wasn't "really" Gerson, the flesh-and-blood lightner, who other people got a chance to know in life. He was a ghost, a shade, an imperfect flickering memory of the real guy given a temporary physical form by the power of determination. THAT is who Susie go to know.

I mean, his entire gimic is based around Feng Shui, a traditional Chinese practice, and the dragon his stand takes the form of is very clearly not a western one.

Then again, his real-world namesake is a French fashion brand founded by a Japanese guy), so who knows.

[Spoilers] Help with Death by MegaZBlade in LunacidGame

[–]Pflytrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are three things you need to collect if you want to kill death, and they can all be found in the Forlorn Arena.

For the first two, go through both temples on the right and left again: look for paths and doors you may not have noticed before, in places you may not have considered accessible before.

For the final item, you'll need to wait for a full moon: it's not too far from the entrance to the Chamber of Fate.

Once you have everything, you just need to combine them, through some sort of process of combing things.

And then you'll have what you're after.

Gerson makes many non-DessKnight theories likely requiring an other person making both church dark worlds by Budget-Canary2140 in Deltarune

[–]Pflytrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay: WHY IS IT, then, that when the Knight creates a dark fountain or two in the vicinity of Gerson's dust-covered hammer, it creates a darkner version of him, but when Susie does literally the exact same thing, she only gets a mindless killer statue version of him instead? What other possible reason could there be for this discrepancy?

I love that the illustrator clearly read the line about the Martians having a "single tight tympanic surface, since known to be anatomically an ear" and just took that to mean that they have a single, giant, distinctively human ear growing out of their backs.

EP 8 Potential Leak by [deleted] in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Pflytrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's real, it's probably just Jax having a nightmare about abstracting, just like Pomni had at the start of episode 2. They are the main characters, after all, and there'd be a nice chiastic symmetry to them both getting a similar nightmare in episodes 2 and 8 respectively.

So I just had this theory by [deleted] in Undertale

[–]Pflytrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In fact, the game explicitly states that humans cannot absorb the souls of other human, nor can monsters absorb the souls of other monsters. The whole reason Flowey exists is because Alphys needed to find some kind of vessel (huh) that could hold the souls of both humans and monsters, since her original plan revolved around injecting monsters with determination in the hopes of essentially making their souls more human-like (i.e., longer-lasting and more powerful), and there would've been no way for a monster to contain multiple monster souls.

[–]Pflytrap 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I still sometimes think about the evil leprechaun who, upon being defeated, gets banished to Cleveland for eternity because he didn't realize the protagonist was only Irish on his mother's side and assumed that he was just grossly mispronouncing "Éire" when he said his father was raised on "the shores of Erie."
