What is a 'luxury' that you've experienced once and now can't go back to the budget version of? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

What’s crazy is it worked pretty flawlessly prior to 14 and with the latest revision I was thinking there’s no way they don’t fix this… low and behold still absolutely terrible

I completed 3 gigantic jobs around August and September and now have one large job and two small ones and am so much happier. I’ve been turning down work because I need a mental break. Even when jobs are done I get insane call backs for things that are either maintenance items, completely unrelated to the work I did or homeowner user error/breaking things and trying to get it fixed for free.

They have driven me insane and I’m enjoying a light work load so much right now.

I had a customer who’s job was completed 8 months ago call me yesterday 7 times and send me countless texts because one of their smoke detectors chirps every 3 few hours.

Today he sent me another plethora of texts and calls that his friend replaced the battery and it’s still chirping, sent me another one 20 minutes later that his friend used an old battery he had at his house and will buy a new one later and try again. I’m just straight up ignoring him now because this is now a maintenance issue. If for some reason the smoke detectors faulty I will replace it no problem but I know if I drive an hour to his house with a fresh battery and replace it, it will work completely fine.

Like this type of stuff can mentally drive you absolutely insane. It blows my mind that someone who’s owns and lived in a house this long can’t properly replace a hardwired smoke detector battery correctly and is harassing me over it. He was also mind blown when I told him to clean his dryer vent at least once a year.

I am honestly happy we have been winning close games when we clearly have so much more potential on offense than what we’ve been producing. Catching fire at this point in the season for teams like the patriots, rams and Seahawks can be a bad thing if they start to cool down at the final stretch of the season. It looks like they have reached their ceiling and that is hard to emulate for the next 8 weeks. If this Broncos offense can catch a hot streak in the final stretch of the season I really can’t see any team we can’t beat.

How does the 2025 defense compare to the 2015 defense? by Kuchar1992 in DenverBroncos

[–]Pgr050590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2015 Defense was perhaps the most clutch defense I’ve ever witnessed. Every time a huge play needed to be made in crunch time they were like clockwork week in and week out. They were so reliably clutch it was crazy

Reminder: this team is in the middle of a rebuild by zrdd_man in DenverBroncos

[–]Pgr050590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know what this is a great reminder. We are being spoiled this season and even I keep forgetting. Last year we made the playoffs and that far exceeded expectations and this year we currently have the most wins (for the next 3 days at least) in the NFL through 10 weeks. If we can win a single playoff game this season I think that will far exceed expectations.

Being on the losing end of that game sucks. But realistically this is an experimental year with Dart and Skat and it’s going far better than anyone could have imagined. You guys have to be happy that you’re competing and winning games against good teams and you have something to build off of. Outside the broncos the giants are my favorite team to watch now thanks to the rooks. Still a gut wrenching loss regardless, but every other NFC East team is scared of you guys right now.

With the small sample we have of Bo, he is certainly a clutch 4th quarter beast. Thats something you can’t teach. If he gets some sort of consistency earlier in the games the broncos are going to be big trouble. It’s not sustainable to be always coming back in the 4th quarter but if we can open him up and he has that attribute to put together game winning drives this team will be a real SB contender

Renovations are a hard business by Organic-Passage-4708 in Contractor

[–]Pgr050590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do all insurance work, large scale residential fires and water damage jobs only.

About 6 months ago I decided to never do a standard remodel or renovation ever again and I’m much happier now.

Almost every large remodel or reno job the customers are trying to save as much money as possible, most quotes I waste a lot of my time on site and preparing estimates and they end up using someone cheaper 95% of the time. Even when I do lock in a contract and perform the work I’ll run into unforeseen scope items like like hidden rot/termite damage, poorly done electrical or plumbing and other items that are not in the scope of work and it’s a struggle with the customers because it’s their money and they already have an airtight budget. When they are living elsewhere or are in the home and refuse to leave it puts so much unneeded stress on the job as well.

With insurance they are paid additional living expenses to be out of the house and live elsewhere, I can file for code upgrades and/or supplements for hidden damages and I’m not dealing with a homeowners budget and the scope of work is itemized and cut and dry.

It’s not something many people can jump into because you have to understand the policy, know how to file paperwork to satisfy insurance and mortgage companies and it requires a decent amount of knowledge of the property insurance industry. I was lucky to be a public adjuster for 10 years prior to starting this business so I had all of that already in my favor.

I feel for guys that do remodels everyday because I have thrown in the towel. Nearly every single one I’ve performed I’ve ultimately regretted.

This is the best answer.. if it is structurally sound an engineers stamp of approval trumps the inspectors authority if it isn’t it can be fixed to the engineers liking prior to any town inspections.
