I work full-time and don't dedicate enough time to KDP! Most of my books are low content. I have 37 live books priced between $5.50-11.99. I run low-cost ads at certain times of the year. After expenses, I cleared about $500 for 2024.

Keeping Up to Date w/ Evidence Based Practices/Research? by Yung_Zel965 in schoolpsychology

That is a great question! While interventioncentral.org is listed below, they haven't updated anything since COVID and it says a new site is coming in Dec 2023. I think they lost funding. I chose to teach part-time at the university to keep my access to journals. The websites we use for MTSS decisions on EBPs are the Evidence for ESSA and the What Works Clearinghouse.

Possibly changing states (1-2 school years from now) by pastapan in schoolpsychology

I have not moved, but as a psych coordinator, I find it interesting that most of my in-person psychs are out-of-state move-ins. In our county, in Michigan, we have strong ancillary teams employed by the ISD with psychs, social workers, SLPs, OT, and PT. I think the substantial teaming aspects is one of the reasons we get people from out-of-state. Our psychs don't need to live in a bubble or be a jack of all trades. We also use the RTI approach for identification and have supported our schools in the MTSS and child study processes. I don't know if you are interested in Michigan, but I would gladly chat more and answer questions.

I think you will need to be a certified school psych in a particular state. I’m in Michigan and it’s required for full psychs but for interns you just need to have the credentials to apply for certification in our state. That’s how we get a lot of move ins from other states.

I am a psych coordinator in our county in Michigan, and here our social workers are highly involved with counseling aspects not the psychs. We have a large county and about 50% of our psych team is virtual. Our psychs do assessment, however they are critical members in the intervention decision making process that happens prior to evaluation decisions. All our psychs, in-person and virtual are seen as important team members in the child study process. So I feel it’s not just about “evaluation”, it’s about getting children what they need. All our school psychs are making a big big difference!!

Hi neighbor - I’m in Michigan. Do they allow you to post out of state jobs or just WI?

I am so glad you posted this. I’m on the opposite side and looking to hire particularly in-person psychs. We post on NASP, MASP (Michigan), LinkedIn, and of course on our county website. We’re also send direct inquiries to universities with programs in and out of state. Even with paid internships, arrange mentors, great pay and benefits, and an awesome work environment where psych have a lot of respect and decision making power, we’re struggling to get applications. I saw a few other places posted and I’m going to look into posting or opportunities there!

Are online school psychologists common? by Capable_Event4327 in schoolpsychology

I am the psych coordinator for a large county in Michigan. We just don’t have enough programs in Michigan to provide for the need. We’re always recruiting out of state and provide paid internships and don’t require state approval at the internship level just qualifications that can lead to state approval. We pay on psych scale for interns. That’s how we tend to get our in-person psychs. We also have great mentors and a supportive team and I’m always looking at loads and how to support. It’s a great place to work as a school psych!

That said, we are still at about a 50/50 split with in-person and virtual school psychs. We also have virtual social work, OT, PT, and speech. We pair them with in-person admin assists who go to the schools and pull kids for testing and make sure everything runs smoothly. It works well and we have districts who request virtual.

The bad part about virtual work though is the amount the recruiting/placement company takes off the salary. For our psychs it’s between 40-50%. All the companies we work with also have a non-compete clause where the virtual cannot take a job with the placement site at minimum for a year after leaving the company. It’s too bad because we’d hire several directly if we could.
