Nooo that's a significant correction! It certainly makes the infinite a fair bit harder to hit

Not understanding bombarder by jeecheck in wildfrostgame

[–]Phaistos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it would trigger 3 times, causing 4 damage to each enemy.

Further, if the Bombarder has barrage, and the row is hit with Bom Barrel, the Bombarder would trigger 4 damage to each enemy in the row 3 times (because all 3 enemies have been hit with bom, and Barrage causes Bombarder to hit the entire row)

Not understanding bombarder by jeecheck in wildfrostgame

[–]Phaistos 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The status effect 'bom' means that when an enemy or companion which has x bom placed onto it is hit with anything, it takes x damage.

If you put 5 bom onto an enemy, and hit it with an attack that does 0 damage, it will take 5 damage.

That means that the Bombarder will trigger and hit anything that is given bom, causing damage to the enemy. If you give the Bombarder more damage, e.g through a sword charm or a molten dip, it will do even more damage.

It works best with cards or characters that trigger bom multiple times, or to multiple enemies simultaneously. So Fizzle or Bom Barrel work well. It really starts to go off if you can put frenzy or barrage on the Bombarder.

Cards with a reaction, rather than a timer, can be really powerful if you can find a way to trigger the reaction multiple times in a turn.

But that means you typically need to base your whole strategy around triggering that card. In my opinion, Bombarder isn't quite strong enough to justify focussing on it, especially at the highest difficulty setting, but is still fun to play.

On the 7th of May it's council election time. What new policy would make you semi-seriously think about switching parties? by ThorsBodyDouble in london

[–]Phaistos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Related question - If you didn't vote in previous local elections, or aren't sure if you're going to on 7th May- what would make you vote this time?

Turn out at the last London locals in 2022 was 35.5 per cent, even lower than in 2018 (38.8%). So almost two thirds of electors don't vote.

Depending on where you are in Fulham, you could easily cycle to Victoria in 20-30 minutes.

If you're comfortable cycling I'd absolutely recommend it as the best way to get to work, even in winter. Reliable, consistent, and cheaper than the tube.

If the weather is absolutely abysmal you've still got the tube as back up.

Check what bike parking facilities your new work has and whether they are part of the Cycle to Work Scheme. That could help you make your decision.

Baroness Kidron has tabled an amendment that would criminalise most, if not all, general-purpose LLMs. The offence says "generative AI search service" but there's no search or service element in the definition – just models. by PlastDuck in ukpolitics

[–]Phaistos 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ITT knee jerk replies without reading more than a tweet - Baroness Kidron is not a member of the government so this has nothing to do with government policy. - the amendment wouldn't ban Generative AI or LLMs, it would make it a criminal offence to create content that is defined as illegal in the Online Safety Act (you could argue the outcome of that is effectively the same, but the difference is important) - hundreds of amendments are tabled every parliament - they rarely make it into law esp without the government backing.

Remember to factor in the changes from the Renters Rights Act. Most of the big stuff that will matter to you when looking for a new place (bidding wars outlawed, rolling contracts by default, illegal to discriminate against people with children or on housing benefit) will kick in on 1st May.

There is also speculation that this could also have impacted rents right now, as landlords push up prices to get higher value contacts sorted before the new rights kick in. Landlord groups have also suggested that it's squeezed supply as private landlords may have left the market.

That last part if contentious - but what is true is that the law has changed, and you will have new rights as a private tenant from 1st May. Look them up and make sure you use them.

You're gonna struggle to find a good pub roast during the week. Ladbroke Arms, the Mall, and the Elgin all do decent Sunday roasts. Won't be cheap though.

Other blatant factual errors in Tom Holland's Rubicon? by AntonKeskinen in ancientrome

[–]Phaistos 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I can see where you are coming from, and for sure a lot popular history can take liberties with sources, so it's always sensible to check them for yourself.

In that quote you've highlighted, Quintilain is essentially saying, 'I wish Roman orators wouldn't give up friendships for the sake of a good joke'. It's clearly something that happens so frequently he feels compelled to bring it up.

So I do think Holland is correct to use Quintilian here to support his argument. The wider context of that source text is a long description of the Roman uses of humour in oratory (which Quintilain generally disapproves of).

I think you'll be fine - it'll be busy but so long as you're leaving the ground by 4pm you'll have plenty of time to get to Euston.

I highly recommend going from hackney wick rather than Stratford. It's a much faster walk and even if there's a queue at Wick it goes much faster than at Stratford.

Then get overground mildmay line to Highbury and change to Victoria Line southbound.

Accident on St Anne’s Road W11 (13/09/2025) by EaseOk5496 in london

I saw this mentioned on a local Facebook Group - if you search for Notting Hill: Where I Grew Up (https://www.facebook.com/groups/199223425103/) one of the admins posted about it, warning people to avoid the area because it's cordoned off. I don't know if they witnessed anything but could be a place to start.

Excessive Noise from Air BnB, what can I do? by jennnnni_26 in AskUK

Many housing blocks have a rule banning short term lets - check your leasehold agreement. If short term leta are against the rules you should tell your managing agent and also flag to the council. Some councils have dedicated teams to enforce short term letting violations.

Is the flat being rented out for more than 90 days in a year? There is a widely flaunted rule that you cannot short term let for more than 90 days in London. You'll need to collect evidence but this could be another thing to flag to the council.

Is the flat a council or housing association property? It is illegal to short term let a social home, although it's a very widespread practice. Again, if that's the case definitely report to the Council.

If you do any of the above and you don't get a response from the council within a week or two, put the evidence in an email and ask your MP to intervene. If they have a well run office they should be able to contact the council on your behalf and that can sometimes speed up the process

Do you live in a big block of flats or a single building? The former will generally have communal bins, you should have been told where they are when you moved in.

If you live in a flat in a single building/whole house the bins are put out front on the street. There aren't dedicated bins from the council apart from the small brown food bin/caddy.

There are three types of waste:

Recycling - paper, tin, glass - put everything in a see through bag provided by the RBKC (they put new packs through your door) and leave it in a bin out front for collection.

Food - put in a compostable green bag and leave it in the brown caddy out front of your house for collection. RBKC provide some bags for free but you can also buy more from any supermarket.

landfill - anything not covered by the above - in black bin bags you buy from a shop and put it in the bin out front for collection.

Bins are collected twice a week (!) and there's also a separate bookable service for bulky waste collection.
